I've heard you are going to make diamonds harder to find. To compensate for that how about a "compressor" that changes coal into diamonds. It's logical as both are carbon. You could decide how many you need 10?
64? then chunka chunka chunka voila diamond.
How about this... Coal ore has a very small chance of dropping a diamond when mined, but only when using tools made out of iron or better. Likewise, if you craft 9 coal ore (not coal, coal ore, which will require the silk touch enchantment), you could get a single diamond.
I guess it makes sense, but please give more information on how to do this.
Thought I was pretty clear. Make a machine, which I would call a compressor, but would probably look a lot like an oven and work the same way as an oven. Instead of fire something to indicate it was compressing. On the work bench could be built from a piston and 8 ovens maybe. Put coal in compressor and it makes a diamond.
did you get this from industrial crafts industrial diamonds because you just so happen to need a compressor to make it and you do use 64 coal although maybe the compressor should be hard to obtain like maybe using diamond/diamond block in the crafting recipe but overall this is stupid it removes challenge
Just about every other thread that suggested this exact same thing got pelted with negativity. Overpowered. This isn't going to stop people from making a bunch of these machines and turning almost all their coal into pools of diamonds. It won't happen.
it may not be what we want. If Minecraft ever gets an ''anticraft'' version (based in the far future, more scifi-like), then it may be possible to extract Carbon from coal, wood, or just about any other living thing, and slowly but surely integrate it into diamonds, or some other extremely strong molecule of some kind. But until then, fell free to learn Java and make a mod for it.
I tried suggesting this once, and I got told it was already suggested. I don't see it happening any time soon. But if it was done, it would have to be carefully balanced, because diamonds are pretty powerful. Also, the forces required to turn coal into diamond are extreme, which you can't do with Minecraft level technology. Fortunately, Minecraft has magic, as well as redstone, so I can imagine some kind of redstone recipe for turning coal into diamonds. I just think it should take a lot of coal and a lot of redstone.

I think you are going to love my Survival Let's Play series on YouTube! It's called Spaceboot1's Garden. I make pretty things.
make so that the compressor is made by 6 daimonds and 2 pistons when you put a stack of coal it slowly turns into 1 daimond, it looks lie the furnace display only that there ar 3 slots like this
and then you put a bucket of lava in the lower box and the coal at the top left and then daimonds apear on the top right.......hhmmmm though iit is overpowering
Any carbon heated to a very very very high temperature (not sure exactly how high) would turn it into a diamond.
How about crafting 9 coal would yield one carbon extract and crafting 9 of those would yield a larger gorm and crafting nine of those agin would yield a carbon block which you could put right next to lava to turn into a diamond ore or something like that?
Like I said, you should have to use coal ore, not coal, to make a diamond. This would require a silk touch enchanted tool. Craft 9 coal ore, and you get a single diamond.
Likewise, how graval has a chance of dropping flint, coal ore could have a very small chance of dropping diamond... but only if using an iron tool or better.
Oh meh gawt no. Diamond is already SOOOOOOOOOOOO overpowered and utterly ridiculous, it NEEDS to be rarer and crappier. If this coal compression thing was added, even if you had to give them 4 stacks of coal, I would punch a baby in the face.
After stress testing diamond tools, I clearly understand just how powerful it can truly be.
However, it would be nice to have coal ore drop a diamond extremely rarely when mined with an iron or better tool. Like a 1 in a thousand chance or so. And a fortune enchantment could increase the odds a little bit, but not by much.
This would certainly add a little bit of luck to the game, but should be made sure not to make things too lucky.
I just think it would be a pleasant surprise to find a diamond in the rough. Yes, it should be extremely rare to mine on from coal ore, and it is true that diamonds are NOT found in coal deposits in real life... but this isn't real life, this is Minecraft.

No don't have that mod. I heard they were going to make diamonds rarer and thought that would be a good idea.
You do know how much diamond is more dense than coal? You would need to smelt countless coal in super high temperature and compress it with giant force to get a small piece of low grade diamond.
By the way Im talking about reality
That's right. But in reality that's how they make synthetic gem quality diamonds which are almost imposible with out expensive equipment to tell the difference from the real thing. Check it out on google. But really this is a mote point as this is a game for crying out loud.

They do it now. And good quality coal is 91% carbon. Doesn't take much extraction. But sorry not interested in learning to program.
If you like the idea use it if you don't forget it.
This is too overpowered, people would just make a room full of those machines and turn all their coal to diamonds.
Well you still have to have enough coal to make torches and use in ovens to smelt iron and gold so I'm not so sure.
But this lends itself to another idea. How about making minor's caps with built in torches like real minors use.

Might still be OP.

Not if they are going to make diamonds in the game harder to find. You do need to be able to find enough at least to make some tools.
Agreeed. In version 1.3.2 I have no problem finding diamonds. I'm talking about IF they make them rarer.
