Terrorist bombers, skeleton archers, zombies, nightly town raids from said zombies, giant arachnids, a literal hell dimension, burning to death in a lake of lava. You are correct, it is 100% kid friendly and family oriented. /sarcasm
if guns were added overprotective parents would complain[citation needed]
thus making minecraft not an 'E' game anymore.
It never was.
Imagine a 7 year old kid playing minecraft and shooting a creeper with a gun and an overprotective mom looking over him in anger of what minecraft has become. 1% support
As opposed to shooting it with a bow and arrow or hacking it with a sword? Violence is violence.
Find a new excuse to hide behind, this is lame and over explained. Ignoring arguments doesn't breed evidence.

The post directly above yours points out an E-rated game that gets away with having guns in it...in fact, Scribblenauts gets away with having atomic bombs and other things far more supposedly inappropriate than guns in it.

this is the worst reason ever to not support an idea, there is such a small percentage of parents that actually would become angry. Not only that, simply adding guns does not make it more violent, all it would do is give you another option for pvp, or attacking/defending against mobs.
...in fact, Scribblenauts gets away with having atomic bombs and other things far more supposedly inappropriate than guns in it.
But ... that's a "cartoony" game. Ratings boards consistently give lower ratings to "cartoony" stuff, because they are usually run/staffed/administered by stodgy old adults that don't take cartoons seriously, thinking that "anything animated like that is for children, so it's beneath us".
Alright, so I'm over reacting, and over generalizing.
But the truth is, and has been for decades: Animation, and "picture books" are not taken seriously as literature in the USA, even if in other countries it is very, very serious.
Disney movies have been getting "family/child friendly" ratings for movies about death, betrayal, loss, etc, since Snow White. Sleeping Beauty. Do you really think those evil faries or witches won't scare children? Do you think that seeing Pocahontas on TV, where at the one hour mark they have to repeat the "G" rating in the upper corner, right as someone is being shot and killed, is really child appropriate?
Animation style, brand name; those matter more than content. At least, in this country.
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
Yeah, feel free to make Minecraft modern combat instead of what it is now, the past.
First of all, "the past" is vague to the point of being meaningless. Yesterday afternoon is "the past". Does Minecraft take place yesterday afternoon? Or maybe you mean it's medieval. In which case you're still wrong...
In the middle ages, did the dead walked the earth alongside exploding shrubs and giant spiders?
Were there portals to other worlds full of teleporting boogiemen and flame-spitting creatures of pure malice?
Did they have complicated circuitry that could automate a large number of tasks?
How about locomotives with coal-fired engines? Was that in the middle ages?
Was the jukebox a common element in a large number of medieval castles?
Just how many pairs of blue jeans were ancient knights wearing?
I could go on, but the point is, your assertion is factually inaccurate. Even more so, the assumption that firearms would make the game "modern combat" not only shows that you are misinformed about the facts, but fail at basic reading comprehension. Not only have guns been around for centuries...and yes, that time extends into the middle ages that you believe Minecraft is supposed to take place in...but the first post specifically suggests using one of the oldest, and therefore not modern forms of firearms.
i saw someone saying that a gun should be created that shoots lots of bullets in a cone shape, and it doesnt do much damage, but can keep mobs away. that doesnt make sense, because by the time you reload it, the mobs would have killed you. I think a crossbow would fit. it would do more damage than a bow, and it would take a while to reload.
the very first crossbow was developed in the 5th century BC, in ancient greece. However it was an enormous crossbow that was the size of a man. One of it's first recorded uses was in 397 BC in the siege of motya, again this was a man sized crossbow that was more a siege weapon then a personal one. Anyway, the first recorded use of a handheld crossbow was in the battle of hastings in 1066 AD and more crossbows were used than regular bows in armies by the 12th century and if you compare that to guns you will see they were made before guns, but not an extremely long time before.
-9th century, gunpowder was invented in china -sculptures depicting handcannons were discovered, dating back to 12th century -The De'an Shoucheng Lu, an account of the siege of De'an in 1132, records that Song forces used fire-lances against the Jurchens -oldest surviving gun dates back to 1288 -13th century; gunpowder makes way to europe -siege guns were used by the English at Calais in 1346 -late 14th century, portable smoothbore personal cannons were made, small enough to be classified as a personal firearm -late 14th century, paper cartridges were developed (not always used due to the fact they had to be assembled off the battlefield due to tedious work, and had to be rammed down barrel like doing the manuel loading) -The Janissary corps of the Ottoman army adopted matchlock arms from Hungary gradually from the 1440s onwards -The first dated illustration of a matchlock mechanism dates to 1475 -late 15th century, ottoman empire begins using firearms as part of it's regular infantry -16th century, wood minecarts, and wood "rails" (beams cart rides on) began popping up in translyvania (used gravity and man-power) -1520 german armourer develops rifling -rifling perfected in mid 16th century -1550 minecarts that ran on narrow gauge wooden tracks (3 foot wide track), and are operated by man-power and gravity, become common in europe -1551 first steam turbine created by Taqi al-Din -1586 paper cartridges were introduced on a global scale (not always used due to the fact they had to be assembled off the battlefield due to tedious work) -Capo Bianco writes in 1597 that paper cartridges had long been in use by Neapolitan soldiers -17th century, wooden wagonways on wooden rails begin popping up (for use in cities, not mines), none of which were self-propelled -1610 flintlock firing mechanism introduced in france -1650, breech loaded flintlocks developed (loaded on rear end, instead of pushed down by a rod from front or "muzzle") -1698 first steam powered pump developed -1704, Isaac de la Chaumette develops a much easier loading system for breech-loaded firearms (paper cartridge ones), system consisted of twisting a plug that then exposed chamber, and allowed user to load firearm with a new cartridge (system used by the rifle, high-powered rifle, and handgun depicted in my idea) -1752 Benjamin Franklin conducts famous key on a kite experiment -1768, The first iron plate railway made with cast iron plates on top of wooden rails, was taken into use (kind used in minecraft, still no self propelled minecarts) -1769 james watt steam engine was developed, was used for pumping water out of mines though, not power minecarts, still used rope systems, men, and animals for minecarts -1770's breech-loading system was heavily improved and was much easier than the chaumette system -1776 greatest country in the entire world gains independence from the most oppresive country at that time (joke, deal with it.jpeg) -1780's steam engine sees widespread use for factories and machines, no minecart usage yet -1784 William Murdoch, a Scottish inventor, built a prototype steam road locomotive (3 wheeled car basically) (not a self propelelled minecart yet) -1804 first somewhat successful steam locomotive made and used, built by Richard Trevithick, but ended up breaking some of the brittle cast-iron plates during a small usage of it, not much usage afterwards -In 1811, John Blenkinsop designed the first successful and practical railway locomotive (you could say this is when self propelled minecarts were made) -1819, the M1819 Hall rifle was developed, the first mass produced and widespread breech-loaded musket -1821 micheal faraday invents electric motor (you could say this is when basi redstone circuitry was developed) -In 1825, George Stephenson built the Locomotion for the Stockton and Darlington Railway, the first public railway system (england was only one really using railways, at this time, and had 3 railways by this time in the entire country) -1830 first intercity railway introduced -1845, .22 BB introduced (first metallic cartridge) -by early 1850's britain had about 7,000 miles of railway -1857, .22 short introduced -1860, the high-powered cartridge called the .44 henry was introduced, and was used in the lever action henry model 1860 -late 19th century a majority of the advances in electrical engineering take place (you could say this is when adavanced redstone circuitry was developed, I.E, redstone repeaters, lamps, computers, pistons, etc.) here's the source for that http://en.wikipedia....tricity#History -through 1850-1890 america saw a massive growth in railway usage, which at it's peak was responsible for 1/3 of world's total rail mileage

I think a crossbow would fit. it would do more damage than a bow, and it would take a while to reload.
...by which time the four-plus zombies summoned by the one you shot will have killed you, because although your crossbow can deal with a single target faster than a bow, it lacks the flexibility, speed, or ability to deal with multiple threats of even that one. At least, if implemented as you suggest.
Comparatively, a blunderbuss could be especially useful with the new mechanics. Suppose a ten or so "pellet" burst, half-heart damage, reload speed roughly equal to bow draw stage two, and enhanced knockback. Against Dinnerbone's swarming zombies, this would be quite helpful, but still a double-edged sword.
Pros
Unaffected by zombie armour.
High knockback and spread combine to keep groups at bay.
Less tricky aiming.
Cons
Low damage can lead to more spawns.
Fixed reload speed means less ability to deal with new threats.
Wide shots may hit unwanted targets (friendly fire or drawing aggro).
Ineffective at long range.
If anything, that might be underpowered, suggesting the need to also make it deal a small amount of bonus damage and/or fair to high amount of bonus knockback at very close range.
Guns take out the minecraft feel. Just watch it sooner or later become an Ace of Spades kinda game. (The only "gun" (I guess) that doesnt take out the minecraft feel is crossbows.)
this is a slippery slope argument that isn't really based on any facts, it's also kind of absurd to think adding a couple or even one gun would completly change the game into something almost entirley different. Think about it, we added minecarts, horses, and other animals, and minecraft isn't like rollercoaster tycoon, a race game, or farmville.
yes, I believe it is too. But there are other gun ideas that are a little bit more balanced such as the one in my signature, I believe anonthemouse has came up with two separate ideas for adding guns (they are hidden somewhere in this thread), and I believe there are countless mods as well (with guns that fit theme and technology minecraft)
you'll have to explain better as to why guns do not fit in sandbox games.
http://www.minecraft...ranged-weapons/
Don't forget Garry's Mod, Cortex Command, Fallout, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and even Scribblenauts. All of those games contain firearms and are popular sandbox games. Did I mention Scribblenauts has the same rating as Minecraft on the Xbox?
It never was.

Well, I think we can all agree that Minecraft isn't exactly realistic looking either.
Same here.
You sacrifice attack rate with splash damage, which given superior terrain, could mean quite clean mop-ups.

What an astounding observation. Did you know there are games from every genre including puzzle games and survival games that contain firearms?
