Emeralds should be able to be used for tools and weapons. You could use the emeralds to make tools as usual, and you could use blaze rods for a stick upgrade to make the tools last longer. I've been thinking on this for a while but didnt make a picture, sorry. Please take this suggestion into comsideration.
Emeralds were ment for currency only. BTW, did you know that diamonds used to be emeralds? I have a feeling if they were tools, they'd be the same as diamond. Which would be useless. I think currency works just fine.
And for the blaze rod thing, sounds cool. But lasting longer doesn't seem to make sense. If things lasted longer in the nether, then netherack wouldn't be weaker then cobble now would it? How about they do extra damage? Like when you craft it, you start witha 90% chance of getting sharpness 2 enchant and a 9% chance of getting fire aspect 1, and a 1% chance of getting both?
Or you could just have flaming items. Like flaming diamond pick. Or make fire stuff. With netherrack and blaze rods to make nether stuff. Although that kinda reminds me of terraria.

It would be easier yet more difficult to get fire aspect because you would have to kill a few blazes, also a flaming pick would be useful if you dont have a sword because the pick would do about the same damage as a normal sword.

Emerald definitely needs more uses, but I think that there's already enough minerals that can make weapons (cablestone, iron, gold, and diamond). I think that if it remains to be used as currency, there should be more to by from vendors, such as clothing and such.

If you like the idea, please support it by bumping the thread... Thanks!
This has been suggested before. My reaction is the same
1. I think emeralds should be used only for emerald blocks as decoration/compact storage and as currency
2. While blaze rods sound more durable than sticks, they would be used as HANDLES of tools and weapons, so you would burn your hand, not mobs.

If Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were all destroyed, 99% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 1% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens.
No I will not +1 you unless you say something worth +1ing. Respect is earned, not given.
But the thing is, emerald is practically useless. Having it being used as tools and armor makes it more useful. And saying that there are already enough ores that can be made into armor or tools is ********. I'll even ask jeb.
IF there were to be any more ores used for weapons and armor, emerald shouldn't be one of them. Diamonds make sense because they are used in real life as extremely durable cutting materials. Emeralds do not make sense.

chill out, no one else is using terms like ********.
I agree with you, but its the way that you do it, that gets people to agree with you. this thread is going to die, can we all agree on that?
I'd start another one that is a bit more diplomatic, informational, interactive, and gets the crowds attention.

Are you serious? You do that, ask Jeb. Lets see what he says about it. Gimme a break....

It doesnt need to make sense about WHAT its burning just that its in the item recipe

Perfection is an illusion that we strive for that only results in excellence
Number One: It doesn't matter what the Blaze Rods would do in real life, its the fact that they are in the recipe
Number Two: Emerald Blocks can be used as a building material so FireHawkDelta and JStall91 are being a little short-sighted on its uses already
Number Three: Cant we all agree that Emeralds are rare and that they can have as many uses as the makers think they need
Number Four: Come up with something a little kinder to say instead of barely covering the fact that you think someone's an idiot, everyone in the world is stupid in some way or another.
Number Five: Emeralds could at least be a little more common...ALSO one of the forum rules is not saying or basically implying "theres a mod for that" so please pay a little more attention to people when they control something you enjoy, you get more out of it.

What's the point of flaming items?
1. I think emeralds should be used only for emerald blocks as decoration/compact storage and as currency

Just because something has limited usage doesn't mean it needs to be expanded upon...
Nice comment...you think Jeb is gonna respond to your urgent requests for his attention about the uses of emeralds?
Cats.
Dude, no. Just no.
Clearly you don't understand sarcasm. Congrats!
