This isnt a cool idea, its a pretty bland idea and goes off topic of the game. Your so into your own thoughts that your not seeing that this has nothing to do with the game. It goes off topic OF the game. It lacks focus on what players like doing, and adds unneeded content. Adding something that is "neat" would mean adding everything that every suggests. It isnt about adding just "neat" idea's its about adding idea's to the game that makes sense to what players do right now. Mine Craft and build stuff.
Your also so blind that your can't even see that that the majority of the community doesn't agree with you and ARE BRINGING UP POINTS, yet your never going to listen to anyone.
THE IDEA ITSELF ISNT GOOD ENOUGH. Its like adding a gaint whale to someone's car!
Tell me what purpose this serves besides being an unneeded project of wastefull coding time?

First and foremost, never assume anything about me. Ever. Especially when you're wrong. I can not take you seriously if you actually think you can know what my intentions are. You don't know anything about me, and I find it deeply insulting when you make frail accusations of my character based on an extremely limited look into my persona. Please stop being so dramatic. Some people go as far as to quote me as saying what they feel is my "real" opinion, this is just as ineffective, and just as insulting. Here's an example.

Second, I want to tell you about subtlety. I'm wondering if some of you actually dislike me more than the idea itself. I'll go ahead and attribute this to the end part of my original post, and make a sincere apology if I offended you. The part of it about not liking anyone that didn't like my idea wasn't supposed to be taken so literally, but I should have known from experience that taking things literally is a strength of this forum. Therefore, I apologize for offending you, if I did.
The third thing I want to talk about is the "slippery slope" method of debate. If you aren't familiar with it, it's a rather poor way to convince someone against doing something that unfortunately, usually works. Here's an example:

Here's another.
"Let homosexuals marry and what's next? People marrying animals? Men marrying children? Letting homosexuals marry will ruin the world."
See what I mean?
Finally, let's talk about opinions. It is your opinion that this is a bad idea. It is my opinion that it would add a lot to the game. It frustrates me that you don't share my viewpoint, because to me, this is a great idea. The simple truth is that the points you've presented against it, for the most part, either aren't true or are completely inconsequential. I guess that makes me "blind", but being able to see isn't very fun, judging by your attitude.

Since were on the same subject, being that a whale is too big... If whales could fly, then yes. If you could claim a whale if you find a rare whale out there, and fly them around then dock them at your whale station, it would be nice to see. If not, then no. Unless your going full robot unicorn attack, this idea is ridiculous as the whale would be too big to be underwater.
When I said that whales were huge, and that their stomach would be 16x16x16, it is easy to assume that I mean whales are actually larger than 16x16x16. This isn't what I mean to say, and I'm sorry for making it seem that way. I really think that whales should be about as tall as two players, and as wide as three laying down. Most of this would come from an exaggerated head, giving the whale a cute kind of cartoon aspect.
You are ignoring all negative feedback on your idea. You can no do that, you have to defend yourself using logic. You have yet to answer anything my post talk about. Your idea brings nothing to the current concept of the game, and you take it personally. Your idea will not build up the game, it will just add unneeded content. How is this idea needed? What does it bring to the current game? How is it fun besides being another subset to the game? Your idea takes peoples minds off of what the current game is. Defend yourself.

I wouldn't necessarily say that the whale idea is needed at all. I saw it as a fun addition to spice up the currently boring vast oceans. I personally thought the suggestion added a bit of immersion into the world. It would have made the sterile blue sea a lot more interesting. Infinite means infinite, and nothing but the occasional small island on the horizon would get boring fast, which would mean that the sea is nothing but wasted work. A way to get around fast on it AND a way to add variety would be a welcome addition.

Agreed. Notch is planning on adding some life to the waters, so when I was thinking about something that would make the game a little more dynamic, the ocean seemed to be the natural backdrop for my suggestion. The whale is really the vessel through-which a new player to player dynamic is added. Player constructions that can be found anywhere in the world. A way to leave gifts for strangers, or communicate. It's just cool to me.

Your negative feedback is that this will add nothing. Did paintings add anything? Did 3rd person view add anything? Moreover, since when is being able to hide a base in a whale nothing? I say that whale bases will be pretty damn awesome. You post only "talk" about how you think that this is a bad idea, and that therefore everyone does too or is so caught up in their own views that they can't see how anyone could disagree with them. I lied, im posting again :ohmy.gif:
All i wanted was back up, comments to defend to the idea. The only person who has done this is you and gaaraxebeard. Both of you make good points. The OP has not. Yes it frustrated me, mostly because an idea is going to waste because it wasn't being defended. Ill go back to what i said, again.
I agree, that Aesthetic nature of Whales added to the ocean as a mob is a nice idea. If whale are able to be ridden, it should be really up to the whale where to go as i think the "boat concept" as a much better game dynamic to allow creative thinking and in depth player experience. In these terms, i agree. As i said in my original post.
These concepts i do not agree with.
To the server, a player that is inside of a whale is simply parented to the whale. The server creates a very rudimentary "dummy" player.
I think this is going to require alot of codding, and take up unneeded time to develop something that is just for Aesthetic purposes.
Just like a regular map. You could make a small house, and live there. In the whale's stomach. Indefinitely.
It also encourges players to not interact with others. It encourges players not to engage in the major aspects of the game. It takes a slot up on a server space, when only so many people can be in a server at a time. Sure in Infdev version of the game there is alot of space and this may occur no matter what, but this furthers the issue. This is what i mean by "not a suggestion that is on the concept of the game". This suggestion distracts players away from everyone else. I do not think that should be.. i think everyone should be in the same open space.
Someone seems pretty defensive about they're ideas on the last part of your post.
Anyways, please read over your entire post, multiple times, then read it multiple times when your sober.
Seriously? Seriously?
There are so many flaws with this idea i don't even know where to start.
No no no.
Quote from Talisman »
So you could live in there indefinantly? so a player can just make a little house and sit in the whale stomach forever, sounds really challenging, TOTALLY EXTREME SURVIVING MAN, while the other plays are being attacked by block destroying lava golems and megabeasts.
You COULD live there indefinitely until some 'block destroying lava golem' comes along and kills the whale and kills you! Or someone else or a mob could come and push you out or kill you, and if you don't like it DON'T do it, I don't want to share a whale room with you anyway.
Quote from Talisman »
And what? 60% chance of getting a player owned whale map? so you make an awesome base, and exit the whale to look around, then when you try to enter the same whale you get a completely new map, or a random players map?
How about YOU read the same post over multiple times, you obviously didn't understand that a new whale will either give you a 60% chance of an already assigned Whale Map or a 40% chance of a new map, ok so the %'s need a bit of tinkering with to get the right thing going but if you have been in a whale, if anyone has been in a whale then you will always go to that assigned map of that whale you're entering. Obviously there are problems and maybe if you want to go to a whale map go to that whale and if a whale wasn't assigned a map already then you will always go to a new map. This would be to prevent the idea of coding around calling a certain whale the original and it would be annoying to not get a new map.

No no no.
So many flaws? Tell us ones with correct reasoning that are actually not just a assumption because you didn't read the whole post like I did.
OnTopic(Not arguing against assumptions): Maybe we could collect the flesh in the whale and it slowly grows back, I mean who doesn't want to have roast whale or make a house out of flesh.

I doubt the "dummy player" will be hard to code; it just means that it will continue to spawn around the whale and keep that land in the ram, If Notch can make Multiplayer work, he can make this work. He would just have to create a new player entity that works like an actual player, but is exactly where the whale is. Notch could also just make the whale keep data in the ram like a player does.
As for the space inside a whale, you can't isolate yourself from the world in there. It isn't very large inside a whale, and anyone else could wind up in that whale too. Finally, whales aren't just aesthetic. They would be a new mob, and being inside them would include a practical element to whales rather than just being mobs underwater.

" Did paintings add anything? Did 3rd person view add anything?" these comparisons are Aesthetic :ohmy.gif:, which i was referencing from. I dont think the game needs to be carried away with this, can you tell me how this will further the game of Minecraft? You say you can not isolate yourself in the world in there, but the OP says you can live there forever. This is a issue with that idea.

Tell me what purpose this serves besides being an unneeded project of wastefull coding time?
Tell me what purpose this doesn't serve besides being a cool project of unwasteful coding time?
I mean when did thecraww say 'NOTCH COME LOOK YOU MUST DO THIS NOOOOOOOOW RAWR!' or anything similar and I mean who doesn't like going udnerwater, wouldn't it be fun putting glass in the whale as windows.
Again if you don't want to live in the whales forever DON'T seriously there will probably be many servers and I'm sure a server option would be cool like this
whales=true/false
so you don't have it and if there are too many servers with whales then it disproves your point that the majority of this community doesn't like it.
End of Discussion.

My frustration was coming from (as you could tell with my caps) was he was not defending his idea. Though im glad that people like you are atleast.
What you are describing sounds more like a boat :ohmy.gif: I think if a concept like whale, a floating base, that the player should be able to create it. Hey Im not agaisnt doing something with the sea and trying to use it as a means of putting stuff in the game. Hell pirates in Minecraft sounds sick. Its not like you can design Whales ingame.
I think anything that is going to have dedicated code put to work in a way that it makes seperate spots for the player, a boat would be a nice place to put it in. Not a whale.
It know realism isnt entirly the them of the game (aka carrying alot of tons of rock) but a concept as a whale base really goes off topic of "Minecraft".
Craft a boat with living quarters. Sale the seas! vs finding a whale, and building a house in it.
There are better ways to accompany the concept of 'floating bases" besides "Whale bases".
Edit: you added more to your comment which ill reply to it :ohmy.gif:
Agreed, i think that in the beta alot of concepts should have the option to turn it on and off on game (true/false), and the game would record what players do for the majority. (This is if notch can really get to everything he wants to design in the game).

Okay I lied too I was thinking that also when you first go into your server you have a huge menu with things like this.
|Create Blocks|Destroy Blocks|Blocks Generated|Mobs|
Creeper
Skeleton
Zombie
Spider Sheep
Pig
Whale
This how you could choose to have certain mobs like this of course the owner should be able to at any time in options change the things in game, any abuse of that power and you go somewhere else.

Hahaha! :laugh.gif:
I'm older than you think, but while I'm at it...
"its" vs. "it's"
"here" vs. "hear"
"there" vs. "their" vs. "they're"
Whew, it's good to get the grammar nazi out of me once in a while. :laugh.gif:
Hehe, I'm pretty sure he meant all my crying with the others above. Good tips, though. :smile.gif:
YOU CAN NO MAKE ARGUMENT WITHOUT GRAMMAR, LOGIC, AND INTELEGEN'S!
Pot calling Kettle black, and Kettle is stainless-steel. This idea isn't needed, nor are any other ideas. Nothing is definitely needed, people just want it because it is a great idea. How do movable bases and a new mod not add anything to the game? How is anything fun other than adding something new to the game? If you can't take people wanting logic and fair reasoning, don't flame on the suggestions board. Or better yet, join Fox News! You'll fit right in.
Care to elaborate on why?
I think this is going to require alot of codding, and take up unneeded time to develop something that is just for Aesthetic purposes.
You COULD live there indefinitely until some 'block destroying lava golem' comes along and kills the whale and kills you! Or someone else or a mob could come and push you out or kill you, and if you don't like it DON'T do it, I don't want to share a whale room with you anyway.

Again if you don't want to live in the whales forever DON'T seriously there will probably be many servers and I'm sure a server option would be cool like this
whales=true/false
so you don't have it and if there are too many servers with whales then it disproves your point that the majority of this community doesn't like it.
End of Discussion.

Creeper
Skeleton
Zombie
Spider
Sheep
Pig
Whale
This how you could choose to have certain mobs like this of course the owner should be able to at any time in options change the things in game, any abuse of that power and you go somewhere else.
