I have an idea for a new type of arrow. I read somewhere that arrowheads were sometimes made with obsidian (because obsidian is so sharp). So I thought, "Why not have obsidian arrows in Minecraft?"
The crafting recipe would be just like the normal arrow recipe, except instead of flint, you would use an obsidian shard. These could be obtained by putting a block of obsidian in your crafting box (I was thinking 1 block = 3 shards). The arrows would do slightly more damage than flint (normal) arrows.
Other stuff that came up during discussion (basically some replies I made to other replies that had questions copy/pasted up here): -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What if you had more than one type of arrow in you inventory? How would it decide which one to use?
I actually thought about that. I'm still not sure what the best way to solve that would be, but mods that cause similar issues (there's one that I believe is called Fishing ++ that has different types of bait) seem to use whatever the first one in the inventory is. So, if you have normal arrows in the top-left box of your inventory and obsidian arrows in one of the middle boxes, it would fire the normal arrows.
Alternatively, the unused quiver sprite in items.png could be implemented as an item that could be worn as armor and actually give the currently non-existent item a use. The quiver could be crafted like upside-down leather pants, and could hold one stack of arrows. The bow would only fire arrows in the quiver. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How much damage they will deal? (Exact number of hearts) Is there any con's to this type of arrow? and lastly will it stack in 64? Or since it is more powerful than a regular arrow, will the stack be smaller?
Damage: Current arrows generally do 4.5 hearts of damage on a fully charged shot. I think one extra heart from the obsidian arrows would be fair.
Cons: Obsidian is a pain to mine up in large quantities, so the lack of availability would be a definite downside. I would suggest that, since obsidian is about as hard to break as glass in reality, that arrows that hit surfaces would break and be unrecoverable, but in Minecraft land obsidian is nearly indestructible.
Stacking: It's an arrow, it should stack in 64 like an arrow.

I always thought different kinds of arrows would be a good idea. Interesting you bring up obsidian. It would make a new use for it. It was also used by the native americans for arrowheads so I suppose it would be realistic. Maybe have iron tipped arrows though too. For extra damage or something and have obsidian tipped arrows for extra range.

Arrows should just have tiers like the melee weapons.

It is an interesting but depressing reality that most politicians are just regular people with power. And most people would be as bad as politicians if only they could get some power.
A common mistake I see with arrow additive threads, which I would say is the most important part, is the arrow equip mechanic. It's never covered. So please explain this, it's vital to the topic.
In your inventory you can have a special slot to put the arrows that you want to shoot in. Like how you put the armor you want to wear in the armor slot there will be one for arrows that you put the ones you want to use in, that way you have more room in your inventory too.

Here is my take on the obsidian arrow...
Like cHa0sFeRrEt said in his post, use the normal crafting recipe except using an obsidian shard in place of flint.
I was also thinking that something for servers that could be cool would be different colors for arrow fletching. Like when being part of a faction, each faction could have its own color which they could use for their arrows and would make them more distinguishable in battle. Purely aesthetic but I think it is cool.
I like the idea of color arrows, mentioned right above me, but different arrows I don't find necessary because we now have enchantments so we don't need more powerful arrows. Also the idea about a arrow slot is actually a good idea. You don't carry arrows in a backpack with your blocke and food but with you arrow so you can shot it faster. Plus it adds a way to 'reload' your bow. So I dont support cha0s idea but I support jstall91

The over-all concept of more arrows is one i always agreed with, but most suggestions for them are either to OP or to pointless. As for this one, well there isn't much detail given so even if it is the perfect idea i wouldn't know. Could you please provide more detail like: How much damage they will deal? (Exact number of hearts) Is there any con's to this type of arrow? and lastly will it stack in 64? Or since it is more powerful than a regular arrow, will the stack be smaller?
