Since we can place string on the ground now because of the tripwire update, and since it isn't required that you have a tripwire, I was thinking of useful ways of using string. Using it as a way to mark the way in a cave came to mind, but that wasn't quite interesting enough. Since it is string I decided to try and set it on fire to see if it would burn. It didn't. But that led me to think why not make it so that when you click on string with flint and steel, instead of lighting it on fire like other blocks (since that would look weird 'cause of how fire works) it would make a little fire (maybe use the torch's fire particle) that could travel down the string, like a fuse.
To make it actually useful it could set the block at the end of the fuse on fire, or if that block happened to be TNT, it would just activate it. This would be nice alternative to redstone fuses, and you wouldn't have to be near the TNT when you rig your friend's house to explode.
TL;DR If you seriously read this instead of reading the rest of the post, shame on you.
EDIT: I know this is not totally original, I did come up with this myself while playing around with tripwires but I am aware that this has been suggested before, it just didn't make sense to bring back an old post, and this seemed like a good time to suggest this since string can be placed on the ground now.
It's already been suggested before, we have redstone, we have levers/buttons/redstone torches/tripwires/flint and steel/anything else that causes fire or ignites TNT. We don't need a redundant item
It wouldn't just ignite TNT, it could be used to light wood on fire by having the fuse run into a flammable block, something redstone currently can't do, and is impossible without using a fire charge, which is in creative only, or using your flint and steel.
String could also split into two different lines, leading to multiple points of ignition, unless that is decided too OP.

Fire charges are not creative only. They're crafted with 1 charcoal, 1 sulphur, and 1 blaze powder, if I remember properly.
Anyways, this thread is still redundant and has already been suggested and shot down several times. Please use the search bar before posting.

My bad, I thought they were a creative only object.
Anyway, I did use the search and found a few thread that were very old, and if I posted on one of those agreeing with the original post, people would yell at me for necroing the thread (which is true) or if I posted this new idea, people would yell at me for necroing the thread and attempting to hijack someone elses thread
@Someguyfromcrowd Just saw your post, and thank you for making a good point, like I said, I thought it would be a bad idea to bring back an old thread, especially since the dynamics have changed since then.

You don't need a gigantic thing of repeaters to delay an explosion.
Have you seen Kiershars delay system? You can delay an explosion by 5 minutes if you put an item on a pressure plate, then put a NOT gate right next to the pressure pad and hook it up to TNT.
@Sting, this is not only about adding a fuse that is only used for setting off TNT. It could be used for starting fires without being around (and not having to travel to the nether for stuff to make a fire charge), it could be used as an emergency signal, to alert people at an above ground base that you need help down in a cave, it could be used to as a hidden remote to set off a redstone contraption by causing a block update, it could be used for a lot of things other than setting off TNT.

If you need help from your friend when you're underground, you can use the chat.
Alternatively, use redstone with either a redstone torch or a lamp hooked up at the top.
Redstone can cause block updates already,
You could also use a tripwire to cause block updates or manipulate redstone.

Well since you seem to only be out to get people (note other posts you are replying too, though there are those that deserve it), I am just going to stop fighting with you, I know that this isn't the most revolutionary, amazing, original idea there ever was in the history of the world! But it is something that, I think, fits very well and is already half implemented, you can already lay the string on the ground and it connects around corners and everything.

Good suggestion dyldo, but I don't know what you mean by me suggesting we take out the repeater, the repeater is very useful for redstone creations, I just suggested being able to burn string since 1: it just makes sense (like you said) and 2: it could be useful in situations that you don't have redstone to set off TNT or you don't want to spend resources making a fire charge.

It gives additional uses for items already in the game (string, flint/steel, tnt) and gives us more options, more raw material for creating cool things in the game.
And all it would cost is to allow string to burn horizontally. Ooo, it should make a hissing sounds just like creepers do.
Anything that integrates items already in the game for a relatively small amount of programming gets my vote. I only ask one thing:
Allow torches to burn string too, so I can put a torch on a piston and have it ignite a piece of string starting one block up and to the side from the piston. That way we can trigger TNT explosions with variable time delays as well as by events (stepping on a p. plate, a different trip wire, etc). This hissing sound would be great for creating the feeling of panic in the players. PLUS, you could trigger string to burn and hiss, but not connect it up to TNT just to build tension.

I was just think how useful this would be the other day. With string being place-able it only makes sense.
As they say; if its a good idea, someones bound to have thought of it as well.

It's a good idea, albeit already suggested. However, since string was just updated, it makes sense to bring the subject up again.
