Block of Gold is used for storage, but it's also for aesthetical purposes, so also why not adding golden stairs to the game for more aesthetical purposes?
Crafting Iron Stairs:
(replace Iron with Gold, lapis, or diamond for other kinds of stairs)
Even with trading and rare drops this would be an awful waste of resources. And personally I don't like the way gold, iron, diamond, or lapiz blocks look. Though I suppose it wouldn't be too bad of an idea to at least have them for creative mode so mods on servers can have more possibilities with their spawn areas.
I for one like options. As many as I can get. Gold stairs would be fantastic in my opinion. We aren’t all boring wood builders out here. Waste of resources? I mined them so they are mine to waste. Bad idea? The only bad idea is not having one or being afraid to share it. Don’t fold up to opposition. Some of these players only draw inside the lines but some of us think way outside the box. So yeah, give me all the stairs!
probably would be a good idea to implement something closer to carpenter stairs where you place a template of stairs and then you can put whatever block you want into it to change it into that type of stairs, then any block can be stairs and it doesnt create a ton of recipes.
While I get where you're coming from. Gem blocks like diamond and gold block look awful when turned into stairs and slabs because their texture are made to pop out instead of blending in when tiled. Just use a texture pack that replaces oak plank with diamond block for example and see how good the stair would look.

This is why I suggested instead, changing the mechanics of carpets so they fold over the staircases and fit the shape of blocks they are on top of.
This would be far better than "gold and diamond stairs", which I agree would look awful.
What is the point of a decor if it's an eyesore? eyesores are not decor, they're pointless.
I think gold stairs would be a great idea especially if your building a pyramid.
Ancient Egyptian pyramids used to have gold at the top so it be great to have gold stairs for a build like that.
Gold is too rare a resource to be practical for making staircases IMO, especially for a large structure such as a pyramid, if it was just at the top it wouldn't matter, but if you're going to be constructing tomb rooms underneath with golden staircases in them then the rarity of gold becomes an issue.
Gold ore in the Nether was intended for bartering gold ingots with Piglin, but it could be used for other things.
You still need quite a lot though, for every 1 gold block you would need 81 nuggets, discouraging doesn't even begin to describe what a grind
this would be for most people.
Before anyone accuses me of contradicting myself on the gold topic for what I said months ago about it. This is an entirely different matter than using gold for the crafting of golden apples, which only requires 8 ingots a pop.
The crafting of golden staircases, presumably with the use of gold blocks would be more expensive than even the powered rails.
I suppose for some people it's for bragging rights and the rarity would make the reward for doing it all the more sweeter,
but I bet those people are a minority here. Some people do not have the free time to be doing this.

I wonder if this is really awesome. Please reply.
Wonder why...people love building houses out of gold and iron, and diamond.
Some players build these, but they want it more aesthetical.Moderators, i think it should be deleted. I made a bad suggestion by accident D:

A better alternative is to let players place carpets on staircases and then the carpets match the shape of the block they are placed on top of.
Job sorted, you got your cosmetics and there is zero need for gold or diamond stairs.
Carpet stairs would get you your blue and yellow staircases, should you ever want them.

I don't like the idea of gem blocks to begin with, so this is a no from me
This is literally the only reason why I found this thread. I want to build a historically accurate pyramid!
I guess it wouldn't be super accurate, as it would be stepped rather than sloped.
