It's on page six of this very thread. Someone suggested "Minecraft Story Mode" and this was the reaction they got.
That was exactly 3 years ago. Like it or not "Minecraft Story Mode" now exists in some sort of official capacity (hard to deny, even if you don't like it described as cannon. I mean it ain't exactly just fanfiction on some kid's tumblr is it? It's on the front page of google play last I checked, it's making money, and that sure is real enough to most folk.)
Disney agreed with Square Enix to allow them to use their Disney characters, settings and plots in their game to shape the story of Kingdom Hearts. But do you see Mickey, Donald, and Goofy in their KH attire ANYWHERE to do with Disney? Mickey's KH attire in Disney Infinity is quite different, since it is a game where there are constant implementations and etc, but even then, only a very small amount of people got that piece.
Disney has it's logo on the game, but that doesn't mean it's canon to anything else Disney, it simply implies that the Square Enix has the permission from Disney to use everything Disney. Disney didn't even do ANYTHING in or with the game, they simply gave permission to Square Enix (and some limitations) so that Square Enix could use any Disney movie into their game.
So in this case, TellTale games has Mojang on their logo, to imply that TellTale games has permission from Mojang. Even before the game came out, was it announced that Minecraft: Story Mode is not official.
Arguing about whether it's cannon/an official story or not is really just a quibble. Nobody forced Mojang to sell Telltale the rights if they thought the idea of StoryMode was a stupid one.
It's obvious Mojang supported the idea of StoryMode. My point is that it was an idea that got shot down in flames here that Mojang at least supported, even if they didn't have anything to do with the actual making of it.

Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move

The way that they supported it, obviously, was not at all the way any of them were suggesting. It's a totally different game, with different mechanics, gameplay, and graphics. As it was said, the only reason it has mojang on it is saying that they used those characters. I mean, you could pretty much make the game, not looking like minecraft, and change a few names, and you wouldn't even be able to tell it was related to minecraft. It has nothing to do with the suggestions here.

So arguing it is a quibble, yet you've been a part of the argument. You aren't proving anything with the second sentence, Story Mode is still a completely separate game. I hate to repeat myself, but that doesn't make something canon, that's not how that works.
It's obvious Mojang supported the idea of StoryMode. My point is that it was an idea that got shot down in flames here that Mojang at least supported, even if they didn't have anything to do with the actual making of it.
Something existing in the game =/= Something another company did. Page 91 is probably full people tell you that. Even though Story Mode exists, I would still hate the idea of having a story in the official game since it has no place there.
Both companies stated Story Mode wasn't official, so this argument is null and void.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
Alright, so I was away from forum for a bit. Here's a few things:
1) When you license your product to another entity (Mojang to Telltale in this instance); you allow the licencee (Telltale (hereafter TT) ) to use the world as it exists to create your own story within it.
The narrative of the world and the decision are no different than someone creating their own narrative within their own world with whatever mods and filters they wish.
With this said.
2) Mojang is a group of, from what I guess, technical programmers. There are a few pixel artists to add new flair and ideas, but it's mostly just database and software programmers that continuously work on a success to make it even more successful. I don't have any insight into their actual talent layout (who's employeed there), but I'd make a fair bet that they don't have full time scenario writers and loremasters; especially on a project like Miancreft where adding creative license would refocus and diminish it instead.
This means that an outside company with a very strong focus on story and scenario such as TT would be a really good idea. Minacreft is a great project with a lot of maintained interest, but it has reached market saturation. There are several ways for Mojang to continue it's success.
The first way is for Mojang to release a sequel to Minceraft which would be a VERY BAD idea.
It would be expensive, requiring Mojang to hire a second team. One to continue supporting Minecraft. One to work on MC2.
It would be apoplectically disappointing. Expectations and demands on the sequel would doom it before it even got started.
It would be pointless. Miceranft is a perennial game that's maintained by a steady stream of patches and reversionings.
The second way is for Mojang to release new franchises which they have; but not to the same degree of success as Mincreaft.
The third way is for Mojang to license their already popular title to an outside company so that they both get profits from the new derivative product. That is not to say that the outside company would represent your brand. Criticizing Mojang for TT releasing a bad product would be the same as blaming Gerber for a knife-murderer or Remington for a shooter. In the same vein, praising Mojang for TT releasing a good product would be the same as thanking Samsung because your favorite team won due to the sharp picture on your new television.
It doesn't follow. In the same way-- No, Telltale's contributions are not canon unless Mojang outright says it is. Until then, consider it a very lengthy premium mod.
You get extra points for noticing the multiple ways I mistype Miencarft.
So, I guess the big point I was trying to make is, even if Mojang had adopted Story Mode to be an official canon, so what? People will continue to reinterpret it into their own way according to the mythos of each individual seed.
Woah now, I'm just a grunt. I have no power over forum features and even if I did I don't have the skills to implement them. Besides, something tells me the ability to quote people might be in the pipeline.
And this is exactly why horribad suggestions get like seven pages long and actually decent ones (unless they are really popular) get like two.
I have to agree, and it is very a hard thing to change. The funny thing is for the most part it isn't people being mean, it is just way easier to talk about what you don't like about an idea than what you do like, so disliked ideas get a lot more face time.

I did a cursory glance at OP and didn't see this. (cursory meaning checking the original image, presentations to avoid and it's continuation). It's probably there, but out of my view.
Thread titles that say "the best" or "awesome ideas". Cute.
Now, I understand puffery and it's necessity in the "ad biz" where people do "srs bsns" to help sell a brand. Claiming "the best" or "awesome" or other subjective stuff is cool (though ill advised. Seriously, your critics will judge that for themselves). but it doesn't belong in your title thread.
I am violently possessive of the right to determine for myself the quality of a suggestion. I will decide what's the best or not. I personally do not appreciate having this affect robbed from me by a cocky OP. Rein it in or I'll rain it out.

Usually it's titles like these that are accompanied by wish-lists. So the punishment you will get is from being yelled at by critics, and your thread being swipped with Badprenup/Sunperps lock card.
So you posted a horribad suggestion and you're one of the few people on this forum who actually admitted defeat after your thread was going nowhere. Great. Except your job isn't done yet. You still have to leave gracefully. *mysterious music plays*
Now that the because thread is compromised, the poster no longer has that source of negative attention that he craves so dearly, so he must leave with a bang! HE MUST BE NOTICED!
Notice me o' Minecraft Forums for the words I have spoken will not go down as another hurrdurr thread! No, they shall go out with VICTORY, and HONOR. Listen to me as I speak! And so it was. That is why you must get your thread deleted or locked, shut up, and move on with it. *closes curtains*

This whole thread/argument is seriously overcomplicating things for the sake of argument if you ask me. A lot of these arguments feel very academic, and little to do with the typical real world player.
I do not see what this shows about Mojang's support/lack thereof of the idea. They obviously enjoyed the idea enough to sell someone the rights to make it. Unless you have some evidence someone somehow forced or coerced them into doing it? Then I'd have to take that part of my argument back (but I'd still argue the idea was a lucrative one, so not entirely stupid).
So arguing it is a quibble, yet you've been a part of the argument. You aren't proving anything with the second sentence, Story Mode is still a completely separate game. I hate to repeat myself, but that doesn't make something canon, that's not how that works.
How can it be COMPLETELY separate when it was a project that Telltale needed Mojang's agreement to sell them the rights for? There had to be some interaction there, right? You have to admit that, unless you have some sort of conspiracy theory to tell us.
But even so, yes, it's a small quibble, one the average player wouldn't dwell upon. I still support my main argument. And by the way, statements aren't arguments however aggressively you phrase them. And pointing out a spelling error twice = also irrelevant.
All I'm suggesting is that perhaps some suggestions aren't so horribad as some posters make out, and StoryMode is a decent example. People are just way too harsh on some people's ideas which might have real merit. After all can you imagine the guys at Mojang going "Story Mode! OMG that is not even worth considering, just, no, just don't even...too many kids coming up with ideas these days. Heyheyhey! I know what! Let's sell the rights to Telltale so they can do just that! Yeah! And then let's make sure our logo is as big as Telltale's on the startup menu, so the public think it's a full on collab. HAHAHa let's do it."
Of course not.
This thread would be boring without all of that stuff anyways. Should the OP censor it to please a few butthurt people? No. The Internet is becoming a politically correct, uptight, and butthurt place. Don't contribute to that. Know the difference between hate and satire.
It depends on the reason you are stating these "politically incorrect" things online. Are you saying them because you genuinely believe they are true and don't mind if you upset a few applecarts and get downarrowed in saying them? Or are you just saying them to up your own ego, because belittling another will temporarily make you feel bigger by putting people down (while secretly hoping you still get plenty of support because it's "satire" not "hate"?) Are you saying this stuff because you get a rise out of seeing people "butthurt", or just saying what you think is the truth?
This whole thread/argument is seriously overcomplicating things for the sake of argument if you ask me. A lot of these arguments feel very academic, and little to do with the typical real world player
The concept that I argued was as far removed from pedantic fluff or gameplay and more on how IP and rights management works and how very little a cross-promotional tie-in has to do with a game at large.
We can extend this to Mountain Dew and their various affiliations with Game Fuel for brands such as WoW, CoD, Skyrim, Modern Warfare, etc. The presence of game-themed beverages by PepsiCo doesn't immediately mean that they are now source canon within those various games. This was the whole argument I postulated; and one that I noticed was ignored in rebuttal.
No your argument was not full of pedantic fluff, but it was much more specialized than mine.
Whereas my argument is "Some of the suggestions that got shot down on this forum actually ended up being supported by Mojang in one way or another. Isn't this forum just a bit harsh towards suggestions?"
My argument is very general and not very specific or academic at all. Completely general player impressions, no legal technicalities stuff.
I don't really give a monkey's if people want to call it an "official" or "cannon" storyline or not, or whether the mere suggestion that it might be makes them clutch their pearls.
My only point was that Mojang supported the idea enough to allow Telltale to make it and put their name to it. So I don't see how they considered the idea unmentionable like most here would have.
It seems like every time I try to write on this sub-forum, people latch onto one tiny little neither here nor there detail and try to discredit it, but never discuss my main point.
My only point was that Mojang supported the idea enough to allow Telltale to make it and put their name to it. So I don't see how they considered the idea unmentionable like most here would have.
I'd say it was more a grab to inject more money into the franchise. Mojang is, in a very fundamental sense, a business. It may be formerly indie, but it's still a business; and the point of business is, of course, to make money. With this said, if someone wanted to pay you money to use your franchise in their game; then why not allow it? There's plenty of references to Minecraft in other games (including Torchlight 2 and Borderlands 2 iirc), but that doesn't make those canon.
The big concept I was getting at is that storymode to Mojang is like TMI or Mo' Creatures or other mods. It exists as an external narrative which is sold with permission from Mojang via a licensing agreement.
Therefore the premise of "will Mojang ever add a story to MC?" is still a clear no. Again, they wouldn't because that would heavily obfuscate the point of Minceraft in the first place.
Therefore, it's less "support" and more "allowed through license".
Outside of that, you need to stop arguing with yourself. You state that you don't care whether people call something canon/official but that story suggestions should be allowed because storymode is made canon/official? Get a grip.
Mojang are a business but surely are influential enough by now to have had ample other means to inject money into their franchise if they did not support idea of Minecraft story Mode. There are countless others they could have collaborated with. They surely have opportunities falling at their shoes and have surely turned many down. And will surely turn many more down. And MSM seems to be doing well, so not a stupid idea, and not a bad business decision. Being a business out to make money does not mean you accept every stupid idea that comes your way, far from it. Still doesn't answer my question of why on earth Mojang would have considered it a stupid idea, obviously they did not.
OK, I accept it's NOT an official story, it's just a small point. Happy? But what has this really to do with my main point? I sure am not arguing with myself. I have a main point, and there is a side issue I admitted several times I might be wrong about, but is still a side issue, and doesn't detract from my main point.
And as for "Get a Grip" why this need to be so boorish? Was I impolite to you? Infact I actually stated that your post wasn't without merit, your first post makes plenty of good points.
story suggestions should be allowed because storymode is made canon/official
Not sure what your trying so say here but you sure got my ideas twisted.

Not sure what your trying so say here but you sure got my ideas twisted.
