Basically, allow your pet dogs and cats stand up and be allowed to roam an enclosure without following the player around and/or teleporting to you every second.
As it stands, cats and dogs are practically only in-use while they are up and following you.
Does a tamed cat sit on beds and chests if no player is around to see it?
(lol, lame joke)
Give the cats (and dogs) a life of their own.
I apologize if this has been brought up before.
Basically, you add a new block that acts as an electric fence. So that when enclosed by this new block, the animals contained within will not follow you, but instead roam inside their new pens.
It's an interesting idea, but would it work exactly?
My basic understanding is then you tell a pet to "Sit" it would create a record of it's coordinates at the time you right clicked it. From there, it would only let the pet to walk 8 or so blocks in any direction, and it will automatically avoid hazards. If you have the animal following you and you are standing still, it will use your coordinates as a basis for how far it will go. Is that correct?

Why not create a new block that is like... "Livestock Fence" or something of that nature. And in the coding write it so that the animals.. Whether they be pigs, cows, chickens, cats, or dogs are not allowed to go leave the confines of those blocks. But they can also sense holes in that fence, and if it is not completely 100% enclosed, they will seek that opening and run for freedom.
You are missing an important thing: What button would you press to have them walk around in a confined area instead of sit?
II don't see why you would need a special button to have them stand and roam when they already have one to do that. It's the opposite of sitting.
Think of it.. like an electric fence or something of tat nature.
The animals move around like normal... The only difference is that in the coding they would have to define a certain block (the new fence piece that I purposed) as off limits.. Unpassable. Not able to jump over. Etc etc.

They teleport to you when you are too far away, this happens in following mode.
When they are standing inside an enclosed space of these new blocks.. They wouldn't be in follow mode.
Maybe edit that into your original post. Not everyone reads every reply in a thread. And I am still disagreeing, because you are making a new block type for something that has no use and is unnecessary. There are a lot more useful things to implement.
"A new fence just for having pets roam around instead of follow." <- put this in your original post.

There are numerous ways to implement this system. That is just one of them. I apologize that you were extremely confused.
Honestly i would rather not have them in a fence but put them on a leash (that does not break like leads do) if i want them to follow me and have them do what they want when i am not leashed to them because i would rather have them roam around my house, but an electric fence might look a little weird. Nice idea though :3

The idea is to prevent them from running off. haha
