I support this. I really, really want colored light in the game. I know there was someone who made a mod called "colored lights core", and I absolutely loved that mod. I used the colored redstone lamps and glass to make colored light, it was awesome. The only problem is that I started to get lonely in single player, so I started playing on a multiplayer server where I could not use the mod. If this was implemented I would be very happy.
And to everyone saying that it will lag alot, I used the mod on a old Pentium 4 system and there was no lag. If it ran on there it should be able to run on all modern PCs it it were to be added. There could also be a "colored light: off/on" option in settings, so if someone doesn't like it they can turn it off.
By the way, could you consider adding this to the main suggestion, but it would be nice if there were dyed redstone lamps. Not glowstone, just redstone lamps. They could be crafted by surrounding 1 dye with uncolored redstone lamps. They would produce the same colored light as the colored glass.
It just seems to be something that would be missing if colored light from glass was added, so I would be very happy if you could add it to the suggestion.
Four years and no news. Has Mojang abandoned the consideration of this idea?
I sure hope not. This is one of the best ideas I've seen since it was created. Mojang is getting less lazy coming up to 1.10, so I really hope this is at least considered. Of course, I'd like it to be added, this is great.
we have real stained glass now, but the lights (except for the beacons) still don't change colors. i think this form should be showed to jeb or someone at mojang and they take the original idea ofcoloredd lights and turn it into a real thing with the stained glass.
I like this since it will make lighting style real life! I would like the idea of colored lighting as there will be nothing stale in color of lighting such as the only light available currently = the bright yellow.
Pretty sure Mojang said they wouldn't be able to add coloured lighting, but pretty sure they could find some sort of workaround.
There is a way, but may require a large technical update which mojang just isnt willing to do right now. But someday im sure they will include colored light. Technology evolves fast.
There is already a colored glass, Mojang added it on 1.8, its called stained glass (I know this post is old)
Yes, it was because of this topic that they finally added colored glass back in 1.7. I remember the day it happened, this topic was the 6th most popular topic on the whole forum and the most popular suggestion thread in suggestions back then. Mojang added colored glass due to the overwelming support for colored glass. However this topic was just for colored glass; it was for both colored glass and colored light. So now that we have colored glass, naturally the next goal of our topic is to get enough support from the community to encourage Mojang to start thinking about looking into a colored light update
Support! Adding Colored Light would be an amazing addition! There could be many things done with it, mainly on adventure maps! Imagine, on an adventure map, you create an alarm and so use red light. Oh also, street lights! It would be amazing! And there are many other uses...
Yes, Colored Lights, Yes. What's the use of colored glass if it never changes the light of the area around it? Since beacon beams can change color, they should project their color of light as well.

Yeah I can now see that the other mod changes entirely the light engine, whuile yours "respects" minecraft more.
If you have two such "glass-surrounded-lamps", of different colors, within say 8 blocks of each other, what happens in the middle ?
not even speaking from the limitng standpoint, a lookup array is not necesarrily "efficient"
in the end of the day, you are balancing the load between disk, processors, or memory
optimized programs have the best balance between these as possible, but...
this does not mean all computers can run them at the same speeds, or even, at all
even if you have a lookup table or array, yo still have to do some checks or function calls
and as far as graphics are concerned, you still have to process them
i am tto tired to right now, but i will share in detail some of my experiences and opinions on this kind of stuff later.
wha? i never heard that

Doesn't sound like it to me, either.
Especially being that 1.9 was focused almost exclusively on combat, terrain generation and bugfixes.

I would really love to see colored light implemented.
I like it, 2,000 other people like it, this really should be implemented into Minecraft!

yuuup this still would be one of the coolest things they can add to minecraft
The developers have bestowed upon this game the glass we need for this feature. I'm still waiting for those color alterations.
