I'm not sure if anyone has suggested it, but coloured lanterns? They could either act like torches or like redstone lamps. Actually, since somebody probably has suggested that...
Hourglasses? To give the sand blocks another use, one could dye them and craft them together with glass to make hourglasses. The point of an hourglass would be to somehow give you a small countdown that is based on real-time, possibly ranging from 30 seconds to five minutes.
Awesome idea!!
I have been waiting until I can finally make a awesome DJ booth.
EDIT: Maybe you could also be able to put a torch inside it, for a cool effect?
Great idea! I'm building an adventure map at the moment, and lighting is important to set the mood right, so this would be immensely useful. Coloured glass panes would be good too.
well... going to take me longer to finish project... my puter fried....... sorry can't show concept idea... not at present anyway. at library puter now. well got 4ish years out of hp tablet...
anyway- colored glass still love idea...
was thinking of all those that like to make computer's, big clock's... score boards.... what could colored glass add to this (besides... pulling out hair) some ppl make um out of color wool.... what happen's at night.... can't see it unless have all those extra light clogging up the seen..... or we use RS.lamps that have one color, redstone torch....
i would like to have the ability to make colored computer's/clock's... etc. for score boards i want a colored face to appear by it... like say if need get so many creepers... or zombies... or for some of the mods out there... orc verse iron golem... or who's cat will reach Elderman first... Really i could go on... and on... granted haven't figured the face thing or it could make a Rubix's cube/ lock
Hope you will understand that i said i would post a video or pic's of example but all i can do right now is
-}
{-
this single blocks/side view it rotated up 30 Another set 40 by 25
.... by 25 block wide top view rotated other way top view
anyway it was a tower that (veridical not horizontal) that (omg... ) i used wool..... rotating thing with pistons.. repeaters... took me like.... that was my first build with pistons... and repeaters etc...
Still top view... then they went down around in rectangle..
one went that direction, then the other top view, 5 blocks higher other went
I hope that makes pea's and carrots to some ppl.
so it was a: rotating, vertical, rectangle; that looked kinda like a box... the example was meant for what cool things to do with this type of glass.. the inside would have glow stone.. that one did not... so if someone wants to make one, that would be something to post in here to help get more support? Or if ppl are willing to wait a few more day's for me to get my mac put together,
wow, was not expecting that to happen... it is definitely a monday.... and i was worried about spelling... sorry about that.
okay top view............. 20 by 25 rainbow shade of wool colored blocks... think it was 5 blocks about this 25 by 30 rainbow wool blocks.
one set of blocks are moving south the other set is move west. basically it was a vertical, rectangle blow that rotated one way while another moved the other..... pistons pushing it in a revolving matter... having it be transparent colored/ colored glass... and have lamps torches... and or even a clock in side would look....
i think that makes sense.... mondays are never good day's.... but i do have a little bit to add... since people are saying yeah or nah. or indifferent.
I do not like wool. we have enough things made out of wood that are flammable, the difference of looks between colored wool and colored sand... colored sand could have a discoloration on one side (like when we place chest, or repeater) to tell them apart. basically the only kind of block that actually looks like another but is not. Camouflage..... i am sure there are traps that could work great with this... really it would be against other players.. server or something...
something like colored sand with gravity issues.. tick tac toe... connect four.... walls that have pistons on one side pit on other... colored sand between, fall and get smothered..... or shooting colored sand up in a ripple effect... hey,,, choppy waves... storm...
colored sand has some possibilities... i am pretty sure that there are some blocks that we don't bother with (i don't use wool..do not like color that bed turns into, is just as flammable as wood, so why bother) and others we use to no end...(Various stone blocks) if it could be teemed up with colored sand, possibly would use it...
just saying that people would probably use something that they ignored previously if they had something that compliments it. or is considered a helper.
so if say colored sand had a discoloration on one side, and you can control the side it face's like chest and repeaters, but other wise you could not tell the difference of colored sand and colored wool... and like in life sometime's when you heat the too.. brief explanation, that discolorations would fully mix in. so the colored glass would look good... with no spot.
I really think stained glass and stained glass panes should be added to Minecraft, colored lighting would be nice too but it's not a deal breaker for me.
playing with more items, that are flammable is not a deal breaker at the moment to go get wool or make dye's
changing the light color would be nice... it is just for looks mostly... but i was thinking under the lines that the color light it gives off... could have some effects of there own... what if was easer to check out/ spy better on your mob traps.... say there is a color that the mobs are not effected by.. so they still appear... different light, different effect.... could have one that draws them like fly's. there are possibilities
That said hasn't this been suggested before? Like a ton?
It's not the best solution either, but it solves the issue with colored sand while having a semi-realistic dying process analogous to real life. The optimal solution I'm advocating for is to simply just craft the dye and the glass blocks and glass panes together like you already do with wool. I really want Stained glass added, but I'm concerned that the method you proposed would not appeal to the programers who would want to the crafting process simple.
well yes, it has been suggested a ton... and since it is something that is requested... over and over... then don't we need to just support the idea...we are not the one's that get to exactly decide how something is implemented but suggested..(modding does't make it reliable to be in the game, if person making the mod.. stop's, it's gone)... your idea has possibilities just like Galactic_Muffin. I just think having at least one forum that has real doable idea's in it would get attention than several that only get like a few hundred read's and only two replies. Statistically, that being said.i would say keep replying... if we want it...
anyway, i rather support an idea that could stick... not focus on how many time it's brought up in different forum's. I will say either way works... as long as it happens... colored sand... colored water... at least i know i would probably use the extra side product if there is one...
I find your posts incredibly difficult to understand. They seem to kind of ramble on and give unnecessary information. If I've pieced things together correctly you're saying:
Colored glass would be good for light up scoreboards, etc. to not have to use torches everywhere.
You're trying to make a scoreboard that can display various monster faces (that's sort of off-topic.)
Colored sand (or sandstone) is good because it's not flammable like wool.
You're worried that colored sand will look too much like colored wool (you'd be able to tell by the texture, as wool looks more woven and sand more speckled.)
Colored sand would be useful for Connect Four, decorative wave machines, and traps.
why not only allow the primary colours, so you can make all colours?
Because it's rather inconvenient to have to use thick rows of glass whenever you want a non-primary color light. Also because you might want to use them as actual stain-glass windows rather than just colored light.
2 thumbs up, like the idea. Not sure if the colored sand would be the way to go seeing as how it would require the creation of 30 new blocks (15 new color sand and 15 new color glass) rather than just 15 if you combined glass block with the dyes directly. There will most definitely be a use for any blocks created however the idea of adding 30 new blocks seems a bit excessive. I do like the color change idea as well.
Hourglasses? To give the sand blocks another use, one could dye them and craft them together with glass to make hourglasses. The point of an hourglass would be to somehow give you a small countdown that is based on real-time, possibly ranging from 30 seconds to five minutes.

omg why is this not part of the game already

Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
Is it so easy to dye glass? It seems like dying sand would actually make more sense.
Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
i doubt it would make it into the vanilla game, but im sure a modder will want to make this happen.
