This compass, instead of pointing to the spawn point, would point to nether portals, working both in overworld and nether. If there's no portal in the world the player is in, it just spins, like the normal compass does in the nether. It also spins if there are equidistant portals from where the player is.
Good Luck, They Are TOO BUSY To Care About This Forum, But I Do LOVE THE HELL OUT OF THIS IDEA, But What if there are many different portals?
EDIT: Can it point to the last portal you entered/Left?

Actually -- ALOT of the ideas currently implemented into Minecraft were suggestions, or mods people have created that they have added to the game. So you might want to do some research before you immediately condemn the forums like that.
Ontopic: I don't really like the idea because the Nether is supposed to be a large dangerous place that isn't easy to navigate. All this seems to do is make it alot easier for you to go in and out of it.

And finding a blaze to kill and getting 4 obsidian is not a dangerous task at all?

This needs to be implemented into vanilla Minecraft asap.

It would point to the closest one (y coordinate disconsidered), but pointing to the last one used would work well too
