Java is barely slower than C++ once the JIT goes over everything
The main bottleneck with minecraft is just an accumulation of very poorly written methods, theres nothing singularly bad, but theres tons of small things that are done poorly. Lots of things aren't object oriented.

Yeah, memory leaks and memory inefficiencies are a larger problem; but, again, they attempted to rewrite the game core, but that ended up being lost time.
As it is, the limited multi-threading that they're unveiling may be the framework for expanded work into multi-threading and optimizing.
I fully support this idea, my friend has a PC (which i'm typing on) that has a quad core in it and mine has a 6 core and it's retarted how MC only uses one core, same as my server board, my server board has 2 processors and it only runs with one, mojang, please, multicore MineCraft.

Yes, please. I have a 4-core Xeon but it only runs at 1.8GHz. My Feed The Beast server is awfully hungry. I don't really feel like spending another $300 just to run FTB.
https://mojang.com/2014/07/minecraft-snapshot-14w30a/ would be where you would find it. Also check out docm's 14w30 review video he talks about it to. btw it increases performance loads acording to some becuase it only renders what you see I personally can't say that because I am far away from any computer right now other than this tablet but many have said so. doc also talks about the thread thing I don't know specific stuff but I think it uses 2 cores and I believe it will use more soon for other things in the game "Minecraft will be octa-core before we know it" -Me June 26th 2014
This feature has been implemented as of snapshot 14w30a. I am requesting that this thread be locked, because it is now added to Minecraft. And yes, there are some impressive FPS boosts!
although it IS more than likely implemented into the Snapshots, I would like to request this topic stay open until the official release of 1.8 to confirm multi-threading is fully implemented.
Terrain generation with water updates is quite the burden to the processor. Have enough waterfalls, and you can bring even the most stalwart of PCs crippling to the knees.
Honestly, multithreading chunk rendering is kind of nice, I guess, but the real win would be multithreading chunk generation. Servers don't care beans about rendering, and servers are where Minecraft's real performance problems are.
with the latest snapshots i've been getting wicked single player world loading times and i'm running an Geforce 650 on an AMD FX 6300 6 core. i'm wondering how servers are gonna run since I have a server with a dual processor AMD Opteron 250, yes I know it's old but it does the job.

Hey, i actually got a notification on this, and have since upgraded to a GTX 560, anyway
I support this because I have a quad core CPU and still have decent lag on my box.
