Okay, the reason I'm not going to say "Quest" is just because I heard that they were already working on that. But, while Mojang is working on that, I was thinking Minecaft not make the player as "Left in the dark". This is how I played my world when 1.0.0 first came out:
Punched a tree.
Made a crafting bench.
Dug a temporary home in a mountain.
[Fast forward]
Found a village.
Murdered a libarian and stole his home.
[Fast forward]
Found an Ender portal.
Beat the Dragon.
Won Minecraft.
Kinda "bald", isn't it? I mean, there was barely any story to it. I just looked up on the wiki what to do. This made me a little mad, because I couldn't internally find out what to do. Grrr. But I think villages and those strange... wells... Could have some more depth, and shine some light in a lost player's path. Say there could be a new kind of villager... Say, the mayor(Yellow suit, white pant legs) would give planned quest? And, doing a certain ammount of quest would let him shine some light in your path? Like, after, say, the quest "giving him a gold bar", or "Giving him a jungle leaf" would let him shine some light on your path? Like, he would give you some info on those wells, and all of sudden, a sandstone dungeon generates right under those wells, and opens a hole in the middle of the wells? Or, say, like someone else's idea, give multiple types of villages, where diffrent mayors will give you diffrent ideas. Like, say, for example, after doing a ceratin quest for him, he would tell you about Nether castles, and those would generate in the Nether? This might be very complex to code, though... But I still think of it as neat.
