This should be in the game. Constantly I look for combinations of blocks that look good so my creations don't look so repetitive. This would solve that, and just plain make the game alot better, and feel more realistic. +1 for you. I applaud.

I've wanted this for ages, and same with mobs. Add this NOW!

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
I think some of you misunderstood me, game would not generate random textures every time, few variants to choose from would be stored in minecraft files or texture packs.
Not sure about this. Changing render context is expensive, as in, changing the texture to another one and drawing a different object. If Minecraft's voxel engine works by combining identical textures into the same surface, then drawing it in one draw call (that's how I'd do it) you can expect up to 4x worse performance with this change. It might combine everything anyway using a texture atlas method and in which case it might not be so bad, but if not it could be a pretty large performance killer.
thats basically what i said, but in detail, thanks for explaining it, sadly most the people besides us on this topic dont understand anything about how the gpu renders stuff
A- This wouldn't cause any lag at all because it's simply texture changes.
B- Realize =/= Release
thanks for the "b" and for the "a" yes it would, it would consume 3x or 4x the memory on your gpu, plus since minecraft was poorly designed your gpu is already drawling all the faces for all the blocks in your pov, even if you cant see them, or some crap like that (basically if your on the surface looking at the grass your gpu is still drawling all the sides of those grass blocks, all the sides of the stone blocks, all the lava, ores bedrock, etc, in other words crap you cant see), meaning alot of performance is already being wasted, now throw in the fact that the gpu has to take those blocks and draw random textures for each block... say 3 different txt then your performance will be 3x worse...
Would the random textures be client-side or server-side?
this depends whether textures are saved withing the map or they're picked randomly every time you start it. Sadly, i think loading everything from the server would make chunk loading even slower. (am i right?)
But the only thing is that mods crash minecraft on my computer
but i will ask notch and jeb if they will implent this in the game itself
This is a suggestion, i clearly sad that i simply modified terrain.png files to preview it ,why don't people read things carefully first!? It's in a suggestions category also...
Natural blocks only please!
But otherwise I would love it.
(When I say natural I mean things like dirt, grass, ores, etc that aren't normally used in construction).

I'm sorry, i did my best but what exactly you don't quite understand?

AWESOME. [iapprove]
If you want to say something to me, make sure you quote my post because I don't usually check back on topics.
