Really simple idea,
Instead of the item you throw magically flying out of your hand I think maybe you should be able to decide how hard you throw a snowball/egg.
It's kinda like the bow only your move your hand back. The old throwing distance = no charge, half charged bow distance = fully charged.
This WON'T affect eye of ender but WILL effect enderpearls.
Edit: One more thing, dropped items can be thrown and caught by other players! :biggrin.gif: (Suggested by Mixmaster1190)

Thowing dropped items better never really was my idea.
But I don't see why not. I'll add that idea to the OP.
