My Minecraft name isn't capitalized and it annoys me so much. I'd love this just so I can capitalize the F in my name (I made the account with the name lower-cased by accident, and when I log on I use upper-case...). Please put this in!
I definitely support. Give each account a randomized number for storing stats and stuff on servers, then allow username changes.
To all the people who say people should have thought harder:
Think about what you are saying. People can change their mind over time, or accidentally press enter, or not know enough about minecraft before they choose their username. I'd personally like to shorten mine for quicker teleporting and stuff like that. You shouldn't have to research every option before picking a username.
Even if all of that wasn't true, what's the harm in changing a username? Even if you should have to exhaustively research everything before making your choice, what harm would it do to add in the option to change your username? It would be the person's choice if they wanted to get everyone on servers used to their new name.

I support. But instead of having the limit on once a month, why not like 1 or 2 name changes total? That way people that grief can only change name once or twice. But then people would really have to think about what they want their name to be.
I agree with random a once only name change would be perfect so that people who didnt thing about who they wanted to be in game can get a second chance but only a second chance. With only 1 chance left people will start thinking about who they want to be named.

That is a good idea, can't be useed as much but can still be abused
But sergant has a bad idea
1. Mojang doesn't have enough time to give a random number to 5 million users
2. Your complaing how you hate you name, doing that will make it look even worse
This is a very important suggestion that deserves Mojang attention. Whether or not you like your username is irrelevant, you should at least be able to change the name that displays for you when you're online. What if you picked up a stalker or maybe you've just been playing since pre-alpha and your tastes have changed in the last two years.
I definatly agree. I hate my username (noble333), and have wanted to change it for ages. Maybe minecraft could have something similar name to steam, where their is a permanent account name, and a display name that you can change. Server mods could then use the account name for white lists, ban lists, etc, and the display name is shown over your avatar and when you chat. Their could also be a name history for so you know who people were, like if they were greifers or something. Also, banned greifers couldn't get back onto the server if they change their name because the ban would be associated with their account name not their display name
Edit: I personaly made my name as a placeholder for something better when I thought of it because I believed that you could change it.
Minecraft.net sets up a method to pay money to change your name. $5 a pop. This nulls all negative posts you's have posted. Also, this fixes the AVOlition situation, as there not going to pay $5 just to re-enter a server they already busted.
OR
Play the game as usernames dont matter. You think your username is bad? I've seen peoples names called "ILovEgErMaNsAuSaGe"

I agree, but Avo was a example, instead of Avo put in griefers

i completely agree with this topic, and The_Z_of_death, i would really love to change my name to fit the skin I'm wearing, and i don't like the name i picked back in Alpha
I am very uncreative when it comes to username, so when i made my minecraft i rushed into it and made it similar to my brothers now on the servers we play on people mix us up, its quite annoying on a factions server when a guy starts screaming and trolling on me for something my brother did...
oh the regret
I support! Plus the acc number is a really good idea, plus bukkit and tekkit plugins could adjust their permissions files to rely on the acc# not username.
I agree with this completely. I put thought into my username, bu since then I've changed to a much more permanent screen-name, and I would like to change my Minecraft username too.
This is what happened to me... I need to change my name to NiteLitezFTW, but it's stuck at Parasanity because I didn't decide on NiteLitezFTW until long after I got Minecraft...
Do you know how many players would change there name after this feature has been implemented? Do you know how much sweat and time would be put into editing all of your server's whitelists to correspond with the new and improved usernames that all Minecraft players have changed?
