COPPER ORE
Can't have wiring without copper, right?
You have to mine Copper ore with an Iron Pick or better.
Smelting it gives you 1 Copper Ingot per ore.
Copper Ingots are crafted into wiring like so:
C = Copper Ingot

WIRING
Once you've gotten your 16 wires, time to make basic parts for circuits!
-Battery-
Basic part of any circuit.
I = Iron ingot
C = Copper Wire
O = Nothing
OIO
ICI
This gives you 4 batteries, btw.
But, we also need a basic output! Not to worry!
-Lightbulb-
Useful for ALL the lighting!
G = Glass Pane
C = Copper Wire
I = Iron Ingot
O = Nothing
OGO
GCG
OIO
This gives 2 lightbulbs.
Now for some basic wiring!
B = Battery
W = Wire
L = Lightbulb
O = Open air

It HAS to loop around, as batteries have a + and - part, and it's an open circuit if it doesn't connect.

How would this be better than redstone? You can do vertical wiring with redstone, you can do light switches with redstone, and it's pretty much the only circuitry we need.
...Don't see how this is useful. It takes up twice as much space, because the wires have to loop around, and doesn't have any unique features that cannot be done with redstone. Not to mention it is an undetailed and unrealistic idea. You talk about batteries, but there is no limit to how long they last or anything, and don't make sense. Suddenly putting iron in the middle of copper gives you energy? Call the gov, we've found a new power source! It should have some kind of acid in the middle, be it a fruit juice or something else. You only gave us one use as well. I am trying to think of things to do with this, and can't think of many. Lets see, you can make a circuit with a lightbulb... And that's it. You can also use a torch instead, for far fewer resources. You didn't give mechanics for how circuits and detecting if a circuit is open or not. You didn't explain how this responds to redstone, being a direct, infinite source, while this is potentially a limited, loop- required source. Also, why do you need an iron pickaxe to mine it? copper is a much softer metal than iron. There is no reason for this to be put in the game, As it has little to no new features and is far more expensive.
