In another game i play, Blockland, Theres a trust system that disables others from ruining your creations.
It works like this. Build is Level 1, Build and Destroy is Level 2 and Level 3 is Admins/ yourself.
When you attempt to destroy another person's Blocks, the game would automaticly activate a Click Screen saying...
"This person does not trust you enough to build on or delete his/her blocks. Would you like to ask for trust?
Admins can clear any blocks they want, But with Level 1 trust, you can build on others and with level 2, you can clear others.
This seems like the only logical way to stop Greifers

Sooo... when's the next seecret Friday update topic going up? =[
I'd say this is more of a combination of block ownership and moderation levels, to be honest. That being said, both have been suggested many, many times.
Ok what about if i go onto a server and block the spawnpoint, dont give anyone my trust, and leave..
Not so great?
This.
This is why griefers cannot be stopped. They can always find a way to use your defensive methods to their advantage.
Stop trying to halt griefers, they will always exist as long as there is freedom on MineCraft. As soon as you stop the freedom you stop the griefers, but you also stop the fun and good atmosphere the game has.
I don't buy the "it's hopeless, give up" case even if half of the community does. Just because the problem is big doesn't mean we shouldn't try at least to minimize it - even if we can never really be rid of it.

Quality of output = Skill * Effort

Relic of a bygone age.
