I want my beaches back!
...in a manner depriving me of an inertial reference frame.

Perhaps the bedding of a swamp can stay the same so people can find clay easily there.
I'm glad to hear that you think that way. A ton of other annoying threads simply complain about features that aren't really terrible, but the issues concerning beaches and underwater bedding should be pretty obvious, even without any argumentation.
And I do believe beaches will eventually return as well, but I'm not sure if Jeb will fix the current underwater bedding since it doesn't seem as important. It is though, and it needs to be dealt with accordingly.
Bedding looks awful, and I liked the gravel beaches...

At least make the edges of the water (beaches/shores and bedding) change according to where the water is:
1. Oceans should have sand, gravel, and occasional clay on the floor and beaches (and gravel beaches should have no nearby sand and sand beaches have no nearby gravel).
A)If tropical vs temperate (vs arctic) oceans are implemented, all tropical beaches should be sand and tropical ocean floors have sand (and maybe sponge or coral if added), half of the temperate beaches being sand and half being gravel with sand beaches having some gravel also with the sea floors of temperate oceans being mostly gravel with some sand and clay.
2. Swamps would have clay and dirt under the water and some sand if near an ocean.
3. Rivers should have dirt, clay, gravel, and/or sand depending on what biome they are in. Rivers going through forests would have gravel floors, rivers going through plains would have dirt and clay with occasional sand.
