Yes I'm constantly annoyed by how I lose chat data because there are people chatting. Though it was even worse with the multiplayer tests, you could only see the text for like half a minute and not get it back.

To get back a few prevous lines of text, use the chat key ('t').
I know this works, but this didn't work when multiplayer just came out.
I guess this is going in the wrong direction, but thats my bad!
I didn't not want so suggest a scrollable chat, I wanted to suggest, that if you enter the Chat and press Up, it shows you the last line you have written, e.g. your last line was "/teleport Player" and then you press t for Chat and then Up and the line "/teleport Player" appears.
I definately think this should be added, but I would rather new gameplay be added first. This seems like more of an asthetic thing.
Perhaps Notch could even make a chat box you can enable that shows up beside the game(pressing enter still types in the chatbox) which has a scroll bar?
+A zillion and four.
This would be amazing, and if people would press enter some button (d or a) while in the text thing, they could resay the post on the top! That would rock.
But, you completely remove the possibility of them being clueless as to what was previously said. . . most of your comments seem anti progress >.>
@idea Yes, this is a very helpful idea as it can remove confusion as to what was said. Though . . some servers have a IRC which records what was said :biggrin.gif:

That wouldnt work.... what if you wanted to type something with d or a in it... it would be better used with the up and down arrows, and you can cycle through what has been said, kinda confusing but it would be like command prompt

There are 10 kinds of people who understand binary.
Those who do.
And those that don't.

Oh and while we're at it, whispering would be great, too!

Or just use a scroll bar.
