I can see how that would be useful for ops, but the name scaling is realistic. I mean, real people don't have names floating over their head, but when they are far away, you can't really tell who it is, and the floating names reflect that. Like I said, though, it would be useful for ops to catch griefers.

The /teleport command works for that :smile.gif:
How can you teleport to a person if you don't know their name?
Sounds good, but what about render distance? Your cone of vision is reduced when using binoculars so it wouldn't have as much to render but it would have to render farther so you can see through the fog.
I really like this idea, so much so that I was about to post it myself :smile.gif:
I think this would be useful for situations like the one I just found myself in. I've got a staircase that goes down to the bedrock and opens into a mineshaft that's like a slime factory, with the slimes always trying to come up the stairs (but usually they're too big and they get stuck). From time to time I just want to know if there are any slimes down there; binoculars would be really useful for me so I don't have to go all the way down there and all the way back up just for a peak.
Also, like others have said, it would be useful as well to see from a distance what your friends are up to in multiplayer.
Oculars (single eye piece) could be crafted like this:
[]
Where the empty block could be like, a mirror or something (which obviously doesn't exist currently...I'll look around for that suggestion, or make my own), and the blocks on the left and right could be something hard to get like obsidian so it's not so easy to make them. Then binoculars could be made by crafting two oculars together with one extra piece in the middle that is the same material that makes up the outside of oculars:
[] []
Oculars themselves could serve a purpose as well. For example, like katana098 suggested, they could be attached to a bow as a "scope" of sorts, or to a piece of string to wear as a decorative eye piece ('decorative' because you wouldn't want to be zoomed in all the time :tongue.gif:).
Right click to bring up Binos and stop movement?
or as someone else suggested...
Equip Binos on Headgear and press Z to zoom?
I think it should be a tool, like the compass. You have to have it in your quick bar (which is it's main con; it takes up a quick bar slot), and you have to have it selected to use it. I like right-clicking to use it, and I like preventing movement while you're using it (its other con). I think those downsides help balance it out, because it does give you an awesome ability.
You dig? I dig.

If I retreat kill me.
If I die avenge me
Id definitely like to see some binos in this.

I'll post any more ideas I think of.

Why not have both? Binoculars could be mounted on sticks to make a telescope:
