But in real life, cannonballs aren't really explosives, though. They don't explode, they're just solid balls of metal that are hurled at great speed. Ingame, all it would knock down would be, mostly, like one block or something. That, or it would send that block backward and make it, and possibly the blocks around it, affected by gravity (until it lands).
I think it would be nice if cannonballs simply "mined"(make it collectible) the first block in their way and got stuck on the second.
On topic : If boats are going to be added, there's a serious need for ropes !! Otherwise, lots of people will start to rage about how they had to swim 2000 blocks to get to their frickin' galleon :laugh.gif:
I love this idea, it allows for great creations, exploration, and adventure. I also really like the way it incorporates multi-player because currently, if you want to go on an ocean adventure with a friend, you need two boats and it seems more "separate" but if the two of you (or more) could be on big boat, manning different positions, running around on the deck together, it's more together and more fun.
I already sent it to Notch after it got 100 likes; no replies. He probably gets craploads of mail anyway. I don't know Jeb's email; I think he keeps it secret to avoid Notch's predicament.

Actually, in the time this idea was up I actually thought up some new stuff (and forgot others). In this case, craftable ship components (The Galley is one of them, but its included in the OP). I totally forgot about Anchors in the idea. They could be a craftable component to your ship that, when activeated, renders your ship immobile.
From what people have said in the comments, the current ship modules are: Galleys, Anchors, Crows' nests, tables, and a Sea Captain's Desk.

Check out Boats Evolved; the fancy huge customizable boats Notch tweeted about brought to life!
I like this idea overall quite a lot. The only thing I would "add" to it is that I think a big transportation update in general would be good because ships alone are a little too specific for me (of course, the main world I play in is mostly a giant desert, so I'm biased :smile.gif: )
Starting small, my suggestion would be:
1) Add horses and let players ride and control them with a saddle
2) Add the wheel! Let people make carts, wagons, etc. More so, let people hitch them to horses for more travel options
3) Add boats (I think you got that covered pretty well)
4) Add airships. Doesn't have to be crazy, magitech stuff, but even simple hot air balloons would be cool to me.

I like your idea, a "transportation update" would be big, but feasible.
That's a good point. If the boats were bundled in as part of a comprehensive ocean update, I would certainly not object. I definitely think if we have cool ships and large oceans, it's begging for sea monsters, pirate ghost ships (or is ghost pirate ships? :wink.gif: ) and tropical islands.
Awesome! Thanks! I didn't know how Reddit worked originally...why does it say there doesn't seem to be anything there? And why is it in all caps?
Should I post it on Reddit as well?
It's there check this link again http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/lfjqd/boats_evolved_bigger_modular_boats/
Sorry about the caps, after I posted it I noticed it and I don't think I can edit the post. Atleast it somewhat gets people's attention :biggrin.gif:
You don't have to make a post on reddit it's doing good so far :tongue.gif:
That sounds pretty darn complex and interesting, my greatest concern is that it is not necessarily needed, and most ocean biomes are small enough that a boat is overkill. I do want more complex boats, at the very least something with a chest, something you can walk on, or something you can build on.

Are you serious?
How on earth is the ocean not big enough? Especially with the new worldgen update? To put things in perspective in the image: 1 pixel on the map = 20x20 blocks. That's 400 blocks there. And that's not all the ocean on that map. It goes further away to fill up even more maps! If that's not a big enough ocean to you, I'm not sure what is.

These are pretty much my concerns, too, but remember that you can reshape Minecraft however you please. Digging channels between oceans shouldn't be a problem.
And yes, a true ship should become a portable base, possibly even with the capacity to hold a bed.
I'm seeing a huge vessel, indestructible to collisions, black Jolly Roger sails, a furnace-powered propeller, a cabin with a bed in it and a treasure chest (though you could also put a music player and program in the Great Sea theme from Wind Waker). Sail from island to island, take what you need, and when you're done, sail off to the next location. Living on the sea would be a whole other way to play.

Keep it up, guys! It took most ideas an average of 10 months to get this many stars...
Ok, one last thing and your idea will be even better : You need to add a possibility to put signs on the Bow !
I want to name my ship Enterprise :laugh.gif:
Edit : Damn, I didn't read carefully enough, sorry :laugh.gif: I just found you mentioned it ^^
Woah, put the link to reddit into your first post please, ThesaurusRex84, that could boost attention a little.
Yeah, you can already put names on your ship :tongue.gif:
Hmm...sure thing! Post edited.
