Just an idea I had for sources of light are giant bronze/gold mirror type things that can redirect light at any direction ie 90 degrees. So you can have a cave, and have the mirrors to direct sunlight into the cavern so that you can A: Grow stuff in caves. B: Create a little mini-sunbeam cannon to burn up zombies and skeletons. C: Alternative to torches, glowstone and much brighter. D: Or providing a device that burns as bright as sunlight?
Relating to light manipulation, have a light sensor, that detects different light levels and turns on. you could have a door or gate open during the daytime and switch off at night. It would be funny to have a sensor hooked up to dynamite, that would definately wake you up. I could see it having endless applications in Multiplayer.
I've heard lots of ideas like this and I would love them to be added to the game! I know Rigusami has a light sensor mod which will help out in the mean time :biggrin.gif: Sadly though, I've heard on other topics that to make hostile mobs burn because of light emitted by an object takes a HUGE amount of recoding of the light physics :sad.gif:

The light sensor idea is totally plausible. It could be set, 1 - 15 much like how a note-box is set but instead of music notes it would have a differently shaded suns or something. The sensor would check every tick whether the light levels on any of its faces was equal or higher than the set level; and if it were, the sensor would send a charge in a specific direction (like a repeater). This would have a huge amount of applications - from logic gates, to traps, to events timed based on the day and night cycle and not on a huge pile of repeaters. I very much like this idea because it is relatively simple, useful, and could be easily assimilated into the minecraft style of things...
But the mirror idea... meh

Please stop crying. I can't interrogate you while you're crying.
Mirrors would be cool, but it would also be nice if you could see the light beam you were directing. Maybe they could add a new "block" like air, but emits light so the game could use that to show the path of the light. Also, to make it fair, the light beam should degrade after a certain amount of blocks. Like real life.

what do you mean 'like' real life. Isn't minecraft the real world?
Nonononono the light beam mirror thingy is a great idea it would be a great addition if you wanted to make light houses and stuff.
Light blocks would be awesome...Kind of like lightsaber blocks. Except, they don't hurt you. Basically hard light blocks. Even better if you could die them different colors. Ahh, how I crave colored light in minecraft in the form of torches and blocks. Stained glass, too. I know its possible, because I've seen a few indue mods, and notch said that he's going to make torchlght look warmer. Sorry, Im rambling again.
