Brilliant idea, but might I add another idea? Whenever Enderman spawns for the second time, there's a chance that one of 3 things will happen (or nothing, and proceed as you depicted). This will mix it up a little bit. These will probably be rarer occurances, happening only maybe 5% of the time.
1: All torches and lightstone within a 7x7 radius of the player will "dim." Visually, they will appear to have gone out completely, though mobs will not actually spawn in these darkened area. This darkened zone will remain in place for a specified time (10 seconds or so.) A faint laugh will be heard immediately. The scream will still occur.
2: Enderman spawns DIRECTLY behind you whenever you open a chest or any kind of container. Right when you enter the GUI, you will hear heavy breathing behind you. When you turn around, it is almost certain you will receive one hit.
3: Your vision turns to black and white and you hear a loud heartbeat that gets faster when you hear the scream. 3-5 endermen will be arranged in random places close to you. You have 5 seconds to hit the real one, the rest are harmless apparitions. On the off chance you miss every time, you will get charged.
Killing endermen under any of these conditions will result in a record, each situation granting a unique one.
If the endermen would be that creepy then they would be rare so that it doesn't occur to much. Also I find creepers creepy because they explode and make me worried that there is one morning in minecraft that one is waiting out side of the door.
On nearly everything, I agree. Having it move faster takes away the creepy factor. And adding uncertainty is what makes something creepy. What you're talking about is much more "creepy" than it is just "scary." I've got a post around here about the exact same problem, but with a slightly different solution.
but the idea sounds cool the change being the despawn then respawn after creepy sounds, though this would then happen every time it might get a bit anoying and what happens if you exit game?
I thought the creepy sounds would fit well because there already ARE lots of sound cues in the game. When exploring caves, you often hear monsters before you are even in the same cave passage as them. If my suggestion was used, then looking at an Enderman would also make other enemies feel more threatening then they really are. See, in the 1-10 min mind****ery time limit i suggested, the "triggered" Enderman will only attack you if he comes onto your screen a second time (after he randomly respawns behind you somewhere). If you do not look, you are safe from him.
In one of the original Slenderman scary pastas, the person telling the story kept hearing Slenderman, or seeing his reflection behind him, but was forcing himself not to turn around because of fear that he would strike. This is what I was trying to replicate. Is that noise behind you a creeper about to blow you up? Or is it Enderman about to get all in your face. Forcing yourself to ignore the sound will keep you safe from Enderman, but it could be disastrous if it turns out to be a creeper or spider.
If you manage to avoid looking at Enderman for the entire (randomized) time limit, he just despawns. Of course you won't know that he despawned, but that what makes it great. Remember how so many people were freaking out about Herobrine? Something that didn't even exist was making people nervous or like they were being watched. This is Notch's chance to add a mob that could still pose a fun challenge to players far into the future of Minecraft. Pretty much ALL the other mobs are incredibly predictable or easy to kill. My Enderman suggestion would not only throw randomization in to keep players on their toes, but would make players fear the other mobs again (since it's hard to look out for something when trying to NOT look at something else).
If Enderman ends up being just another "run straight at player" enemy with a teleport to cover up it's crappy pathfinding abilities, i will be severely disappointed.
This is a terrible idea, you have never seen the Endermen before, so why should you make a judgment? You suck, huh, I wasn't even reviewing for that, the results actually say you suck.
Good day sir.

It's true, Minecraft doesn't have good path finding.
But even if it did, the teleporting would still be implemented, because watching an Enderman snake it's way around a tree, then moving around that random pig, then the few blocks you placed down, just doesn't have the same creepy effect as one moving straight towards you.
And I believe it's been said, many times, that your version of Enderman would become repetitive and annoying after the first few times, thus ruining it's implementation as a "creepy" mob.
I admit, that this idea is a good one, however I do not agree that it should be in the 1.8 update for Minecraft. This is an idea for an actual horror based game.

You criticize him for making a judgement on Enderman, Notch has already posted what Enderman will be like in the game, and thus he CAN make said judgement if that is how he feels, and if he chooses to do so.
YOU are quick to judge, how does he suck? What evidence do you have to base this claim off of? You have no right to pass this judgement on him. You're not just a regular moron, you were designed to be a moron.

You can't really judge what you don't know, and yes, notch has posted info about the enderman, but he hasn't said anything about how far they can teleport, or whether or not they'll have new pathfinding. I don't think you should complain about something not even released yet. That is kinda dumb. This thread has okay ideas, but they could've been put in a suggestion format, instead of a complaint format.
EDIT
lol not really trying to get at the person i quoted. Just asking,"Why can't we all just accept everyone else's intolerance for others, and just all get along?"
How stupid. Seriosly, they despawn when you look away? I could just look away from them and not even bother fighting them. What you are suggesting is one of the dumbest suggestions I have ever heard.

Come on now, guy. You could atleast try constructive criticism, instead of just saying "This is dumb."
And it kinda seems like you didn't read the post. AT all. Try harder next time.
Although, this doesn't fit into minecraft well at all. Good horror game idea though.

You are the biggest genius evar
That's a DAY in Minecraft.
It should be something like 2-3 minutes.
How did I escape? With difficulty....How did I plan this moment? With pleasure
Here's that post.
