Now, I realize there might be a mod that locks chests/doors, but I have and idea on how to make craftable ones.
Lets say has some that Mr. wants to steal.
gets out his crafting table and makes a locking chest like this
= Redstone
= Button
= Door
He then takes his lockable chest, and places it. It then asks To make 5-digit combo usings the numbers 0-9.
But wait! Mr. Will just destroy the chest and take 's s
So takes a door, and crafts it into something like this
He gets a lockable door. Then he sets it down, and makes the combo like he did his chest.
Then Mr. Sneaks in at night, and tries to open the door. He is faced with a GUI that has numbers 0-9 in a 2x5 rectangle, with a small grey box showing the numbers he's punched in.
When Gets home and finds Mr. trying to beat his security, he plants some around him like this
Didn't someone already post a topic just like this about 10-15 minutes? Its called lockette :biggrin.gif:. If you want to use chests on a pin code, its possible to make a bank like system using redstone( I just finished mine :biggrin.gif: ).
well, the difference between a redstone combo and the door is that the door takes up 1 space. It might be overpowered, I don't know. Also, When you mean it's called lockette, do you mean a mod? I was suggesting this to be in the game, as a 2-block entity (door is 2 spaces, lockable chest can be double.) Also, you can't place a lockable chest and a normal chest right next to each other. Some visual differences would maybe be a keypad next on the chest, and maybe a greyish color.
The idea of a keypad, to me, seems too futuristic for Minecraft. I like the idea but even so, it doesn't sit well with the rest of the game. Also, its pretty fun spending hours to make these complicated contraptions to accomplish the most mundane things :tongue.gif:
Yeah, the idea is good but unless in SSP are not NPC thieves is it useless. I agree this is usable in SMP but I think there is simplier install some plugins to lock chests
I must agree with the fun time, but if it seems too futuristic, would a dial maybe work better? Craft a dial like this:
= Redstone
then replace the top middle button with Dial, and make all other buttons redstone? Like this:
= Dial
= Door/Chest
= Redstone
Then you would "spin" (click and drag) the dial to the correct numbers.
a dial pad is really complicated to mod into minecraft, do you know of any dragable-GUI's in the game currently? :tongue.gif: There im assuming that it would be pretty difficult to create.
Also I know I know that I'm a complete noob to these forums but its not like I haven't previously tried creating an account here. ( the cursenetwork/mc forums hates me for some reason ) But I have been creating mods for myself for a while now and coming accross your door/chest idea I think I might try this, I'll post something if it happens! :tongue.gif:
Thanks ninja. Also, Rionsk, the screenshots of endermen show them holding blocks. Maybe they can steal from your chests, making this useful in SSP. Just an idea. And if buttons are so futuristic, why are they in the game. Sure, its only people doing this, but I'm only suggesting to make it smaller. And how about instead of a drag dial, make it so you click on the number and the image spins to match. Just and idea though.

Buttons are not futuristic. You push object which pushes object which connects a circuit. But a keypad of 10 buttons (0-9) with an integrated circuit that separates the electrical signals and has a 4 digit memory system build in is much too futuristic. A dial would work better, although it would be harder to code a GUI for.

Buttons aren't futuristic they are just modern. Buttons could be as simple as a peice of metal (wire/for eletrical current) being pushed by the surface of the button to meat with another piece of metal (wire) to send the current through it and a spring pushing it back, but I think a simple number pad like
_____
|1|2|3|
|4|5|6|
|7|8|9|
Should be fine for minecraft or the chests/door should lock with ah certain item? For example, if all blocks/items had weight when drop measured via modded pressure pad, the creature would program the pressure pad to only send a signal when a certain item(s) have been dropped on it, lets say a and 3 this could trigger a special circuit that only activates via the pressure pad to unlock the chest and or door.
EDIT: The elderman stealing from chests would be cool :tongue.gif:
