(Revised Idea) The overall concept of the Efficient Furnace is that it's more efficient(duh) than a regular furnace.
So now one of the two options you have for the furnace is to make the flame last longer(since the furnace is now more efficient). Basically the flame lasts two times longer than a regular furnace, but using the same amount of coal. The other option you have is to make it cook things faster using the same amount of coal(since it's a more efficient furnace). So it would cook things two times faster than a regular furnace. You could switch between these two options with a switch in the furnace panel(like when you right click a furnace, that screen).
The crafting materials: Two Furnaces, one Iron Ingot.
The crafting design(requires a 2x2 crafting square) :
You would be using the spare parts from one of the furnaces, along with the Iron Ingot(used to touch up a few of the parts) to make a new and improved Efficient Furnace!
Just an idea I had, let me know if you guys like it or if I'm just totally wasting my time thinking of it, I greatly appreciate feedback! Also let me know if you think the materials for crafting it should be different. :biggrin.gif:
You could just save an ingot and make two furnaces.

NO. Don't click New Thread. Read the rules. I don't give a damn how long or boring they are. If you do not, you will be subject to massive flaming and criticism by yours truly.
This makes no sense. All of the logic is flawed, as well as the math. Let's do the math together.
Current System (making 2 items):
Make 2 furnaces (cost: 16 cobblestone)
Put 1 iron ore in each furnace (cost: 2 Iron Ore)
Use just enough fuel (2 sticks apiece) to smelt both items (cost: 4 sticks)
Time to smelt both items: 10 seconds
Materials Used:
16 Cobblestone
2 Iron Ore
4 Sticks
Materials Gained:
2 Iron Ingot
Proposed System (Making 2 items):
Make double furnace (cost: 16 cobblestone, 1 iron ingot)
Smelt 2 Iron Ore (cost: 2 Iron Ore)
Put enough fuel (sticks) in to smelt both iron exactly [Note: Need 2x the sticks for double furnace] (cost: 8 sticks)
Time to smelt both items: 10 seconds
Materials Used:
16 Cobblestone:
1 Iron Ingot
2 Iron Ore
8 Sticks
Materials Gained:
2 Iron Ingot
As you can see, the double furnace makes the same amount of items in the same amount of time, but uses twice as many sticks and needs an extra iron ingot to make.

no, just make more furnaces. if this really is better then it would completely supersede the normal furnace making it obsolete. there's really no need to waste time messing around with trivial stuff like this.

Problem solved.
I'm sorry, but this really serves no purpose.
