After putting a bit more thought into it, I've come up with some stuff for the boss battle. The new realm is nearly invisible because of the extra dense fog. Only a massive creature held down by chains is visible. This creature, Apocalypse, is easily 40 blocks high, and perhaps 20 wide. Instead of being hurt from your attacks, it simply grow stronger. This means that each of it's 6 body parts, (arms, legs, head, tail) Must be destroyed all at once. This will require the TNT of Cryptonius, the Creeper God, which is received apron entry to the realm. Each body part is guarded by an armageddon. At the end of the fight you can receive the Skull of Apocalypse, which can be worn as a helmet and allows you to release small amounts of the fog for your own purposes. This is of course, just a general idea; feel free to edit or even discard it if you like.
It'd be interesting to have this be a server mod, and have the obelisk spawn automatically, and not tell the players. Maybe the chat function could be disabled within 100 meters of the obelisk, that would be neat.
However, there is one problem inherent to all these horror concepts that people seem to love: it's minecraft. The monsters are cubes.
great idea, but i think it would be better to have an option that makes the fog stay away from torches. mainly because if it happens to be too difficult for the player to stop the fog... their entire save would be useless. and i would much rather have the option of at least having a stable safe-house.
Fine, name the TNT after something else, I just wanted to think of a cool name like the previous objects (armor of the ancients, Vanquisher sword) and I did say it was okay if you changed things or even flat-out discarded the idea. But at the very least tell me what you didn't like about it.
Never palyed half life sooo.... yeah. No correlation.
The plot, basically, is you're a physicist in the Black Mesa science factory, when you accidentally open a portal to another dimension. Throughout the game, crazy looking alien monsters keep warping in from this other realm, called Xen. Near the end of the game, you actually travel to Xen, which has an outer space skybox, and is composed of a bunch of asteroid-like platforms, many of which move around. The landscape, if it could be called that, is populated with strange alien flora and fauna. They really did a good job making that place alien and giving the player a sense of awe, especially with the graphics available in the 1990s. The whole point of travelling to Xen is to find and kill the Nihilanth, which is an enormous, hideous being that's holding the rift open with the power of its mind. Also, at the beginning of each level in Xen, you hear this crazy whispering, which it later turns out was actually coming from the Nihilanth.
The similarities are striking. Driven by a desire for power (science in half life, better armor and sword in the Fog), someone accidentally opens a portal to another dimension, flooding the overworld with horrific monstrosities. To close the rift, you have to travel to the other dimension and do a boss battle. The other dimension is a bunch of floating islands. Your character does not speak one word during the entirety of the campaign.
So you'll understand if I was a bit suspicious of plagiarism when I first read it. Although yours is pretty damn awesome. The main difference, I guess, would be that the Fog is fantasy, while Half Life is science fiction. Which is a pretty big distinction, and sort of gives it a whole different feel.
what if when you manage to go and maybe block the hole caused when you unleash the fog,it(or the fog) speaks to you saying "put the armor in the chest and never will you be powerful but keep it on and join me,FOR TOGETHER WE WILL RULE ALL MINECRAFTIA!!" and if you chose to join him you become corrupted...or something(didn't realy think this through just posted before i forget about it)
The Fog is not a sentient/demonic/alien force. It's just an incredibly powerful thing that was locked away beneath the bedrock by an ancient civilization with ancient technology.
It is NOT a sentient being. It is NOT otherworldly. It is just an immensely powerful creature. I sort of want the Fog to hint towards it being alive.
I have a mob idea, Grief, a sort of a pale navy blue serpentine creature, has thorns running down it's body, the head of a turtle's though thorned, with yellow eyes that of a lizard's. It is spawned alone and underground, which means it is concealed to the player. When it is in range of detection, it will tunnel towards the player, break the surface, and pounce on the player, dealing 56 hearts of damage on average. It has 3 hearts of health, but it is made up for it's incredible speed. The only way to attack a Grief is to hit at it when it breaks surface, for it tunnels back down. It will not be able to tunnel through stone, or anything harder than stone. So,what do you think?
lol... flymod could make it quite easy... x5 speed to the obelisk, repair the hole, happy dance!
The game would check for any modifications to the game, and if any are present, you can't get the achievement or cape.
And you don't "repair the hole". You do the boss battle and you end up back in the real world with almost everything normal, except you have the cape and the abilities that would be tied to it (still undecided).
i dont see this working all these increadably strong monsters and you cant see
the visual of the fog its self id say should look like a giant cloud
when you get inside of the fod that visual disapears and
you get a more of a
to give the affect that the fog is like effecting your ability to focus
Who ever said anything about invisible monsters?
Also, I do like the idea of the screen becoming distorted, but not all the time. I think there should be a certain mob that does this when you get close to it.
I'm working on balancing it out a bit and making it more interesting. It will most likely be added soon.

@ Dadpool
NO! NO NO NO! No creeper god crap! No gods at all! that idea is just... Uhg. No offence meant, but that sounds so stupid.

just a precaution i suppose

i wouldn't play it if it was a mod, and I wouldn't play if it was in game. No.
Okay then don't play it. Don't activate the fog by crafting the special compass and going there. Simple as that.

for you!
I Support +1.
