It should be on Steam, as long as there are other ways to access it.

is there reasoning behind your thoughts? or is this based on personal preference? i would love to hear some love to hear some logic on this, otherwise, take your unfounded biased opinions somewhere else

if your friend is on it will say. if they want to play with you it will say. if there server is up it will say. etc.
I tried to add Minecraft as a non steam game but it just messed up. Most of the negative comments here are from people who either have not used steam. Or don't understand just how much benefit Steam gives to all gamers. This could be the start of true Minecraft servers. Click my banner.
your banner is the thing that says better mc server hosting... Right?

Yeah. Servers could potentially be easier to access through Steam. I support Steam as an option, but don't care if it is or isn't added. Notch also make one of those little blurbs on the title screen read "Not on Steam!" so idk if he likes Steam or not. Also, Minecraft can sometimes have problems being added as a non steam game because it has to load up the java environment instead of an internal game engine.

never saw that blurb, and minecraft should not run on java because it does not allow to take full advantage of your computer... no matter how much of a bad ass gaming rig it might be... sorry for the word choice...
I personally have used steam, I hate steam for the very same reason I hate facebook. If I want to play a game, I don't want to have to go through a specific channel to play it. Obviously, there is a cut-off; like you can't change the developer. Essentially, if I wanted to play PvZ, I'd HAVE to go through popcap at some point; but I hate engines like steam, zanga, facebook, wildtangent, and other "organizers" for game data. I prefer using my OWN gateways and my OWN channels for my content.
Why do I need to use Steam to download content when I have a WEB BROWSER? Why do I need to use Steam to chat when I have an INSTANT MESSANGER? Why do I need to use Steam to organize my games when I have a BRAIN and MEMORY?
Gated access pisses me off. I understand that others may like it. You are ok, and you can have it; but as a respectful request, do not try to force me to have it.
As far as that goes, steam adds additional headaches. I know Notch has originally attempted a deal with steam, but it fell through and Notch went with his own development.

several things....
1. steam is like xbox live or play station network, but for the pc so dont dis it.
2. lots of hardcore gamers use it.
3. windows live messenger sucks, get skype...
4. if you dont like steam then dont bother this post.
5. steam does not add headaches but make multi player better
6. dont dis facebook, although there games are dumb
7. clearly your not a hardcore gamer as hardcore gamers are open to anything.
8. if you can reject steam i dont even want to deal with you
sorry if you take any of that offensive

I can dis anything I want based off of personal preference. There are MULTIPLE systems for the PC which serve the purpose of steam, it does not hold a monopoly.
2. lots of hardcore gamers use it.
Lots of hardcore gamers use everything. I know lots of hardcore gamers which have an iMac, what you're saying has no bearing on this point.
3. windows live messenger sucks, get skype...
I don't use WLM, I use trillian, I don't need skype. Thanks for playing.
4. if you dont like steam then dont bother this post.
If you don't like a disagreeing opinion, don't bother visiting this forum.
5. steam does not add headaches but make multi player better
It does add headache, mostly on dev side with updates.
6. dont dis facebook, although there games are dumb
I can dis whatever I want, I have an opinion.
7. clearly your not a hardcore gamer as hardcore gamers are open to anything.
Apparently you don't know the definition of a hardcore gamer.
8. if you can reject steam i dont even want to deal with you
sorry if you take any of that offensive
I don't take offense, but please don't pigeon-hole me with a stereotypical assumption because I have a separate opinion from you. I can reject steam as I've used it before; it doesn't improve life for me. It, in fact, gates my choices; blows system resources, and serves redundant purposes.
Also, preference for/against steam and facebook have nothing to do with how hardcore a player is.
You have an instant messenger but it doesn't function as an overlay. If you have over a hundred games it is still effort to find one in particular. Steam is a browser and you can quickly access the digital store in quite literally seconds. Steam is the future of PC gameplay.
Thank you for your response. I do agree that it is a browser and quick store, but I believe it's purposes are redundant and unnecessary to my tastes. I also agree that it is a possible future for PC gameplay, but it is not the only one. I believe EA, Ubisoft, and other producers have similar systems. Thanks.
I personally don't use steam when I can get a physical copy of a game because it takes away your right to resell games. Minecraft is already digitally distributed, what is wrong with the current method?

You have made a suggestion, I have provided criticism. Please be more understanding.
a lot of people would be mad at your opinions... please get of this post after responding...
A lot of people generally are, especially when my view stands contrary to their suggestion. This doesn't make me incorrect; again, please be more respectful of other opinions.
Keep in mind, that just because my opinion makes others angry at me doesn't mean that I shouldn't state it. What kind of person would I be if I threw away my beliefs just simply to make others like me. If my opinion is honest, on point, and not insulting/offensive, I feel I deserve the right to state it. If I changed my view simply for popularity, I would become a sell-out; and my opinion would not be respected at all (as opposed to not being respected here), and I would rather earn my respect than throw on different masks and be seen as fickle.
Again, thank you for your concerns, but be more respectful of other opinions and criticisms toward your idea.
