This shiny metallic block has one special property: blocks adjacent to a chute block are affected by gravity just like sand and gravel, until it stops being next to a chute block.
By stacking several chute blocks on top of each other, and placing a block next to them or pushing it next to one with a piston, you can cause the block to fall down as far as you need it to.
This suggestion is meant to compliment my other idea of Roller Blocks, allowing you to move and drop placed blocks, but could also be useful even without it.
P.S. I think blocks that pistons cannot move (obsidian) should not be affected by chute blocks.
How about this as a crafting recipe: 3 iron bars in a vertical line to create 2 chutes?
If they're thick as slabs/doors and only as explosion resistant as stone, that'd probably be fine. It'd be troublesome if someone were to make a house of chutes that's got the physical durability of a house made of iron blocks.

I imagine it would look like a chute, not very attractive or strong as a complete building. Perhaps it would only affect blocks touching the "chute" side.

Occasionally, but this isn't one of them!
I put a request for a mod in. Please post there if you want this (and roller blocks) modded!

Chute blocks only affect blocks horizontally adjacent to them. Not vertically adjacent. So a chute block won't affect a block beneath it.
Chute blocks can affect other chute blocks, but you don't have to worry about a chute block dropping because it has another chute block above it.
