I find that this would make the game more annoying than difficult. So more monsters spawn the better you do so they basically overwhelm you. This would really only work for creepers. Zombies even in packs are easy to deal with same with spiders and skeletons would be an utter pain in the ass.
I would like the game to be more difficult but I think adding more monsters would be the better way to do things.
AI Director was in both games, and it got ****ing sadistic. I spent an entire level on mere scraps of ammo and the other three guys dead, and it still saw fit to throw a Boomer (and the resulting horde) at me. :dry.gif: Still...It'd be kinda badass.
Clearly, it got sick of being trashed.
Anyway, I support this idea; Rubber-band AI hive minds are always a good thing, even if it would nearly double the size of the jar.
Except it'd clearly have less factors complex factors to factor into it's factors, therefore making the sum total of it's curves and girth less expansive.
saying factor multiple times does not change the fact you do not now what you are talking about (no offence)
None taken. I was actually hoping to make it quotable, not sensible. Ah well, maybe when something my brain drools out actually makes sense I'll earn the right to be quoted.
I'm quite sure it won't be as hard to code as people think it would be. It doesn't have to be complex at all. Perhaps a simple count of how many monster you kill, multiplied by a difficulty factor for each mob, and use the average of that over a range of nights. That could easily be coded in 15 minutes time. I'm sure you could do something cooler than that if you spend a few hours on it. And I've done my fair share of coding to know this is true (and I'm assuming Notch is a good/experienced programmer).
Good idea! You have my support. Minecraft needs a bit more of a challenge. I'd like to take on a whole horde of zombies and skellies (one creeper is enough though :tongue.gif:).
Or... just put in a minimum. When you reach that minimum, mobs will still spawn, just less than normal. And from there own, it will stay at that minimum spawn rate until you kill some, and then it will increase again. This will prevent people from just sitting around, waiting until no mobs spawn anymore.

game dev here imo the director code monitors a players "stress" levels and the mean of all human players, if the stress levels drop below a certain threshold a horde is summoned (modulation included)
works well in source based games, also owned by vlave... but still relied on a lot of "trigger" based occurrences and pre-determined timing. this wont work in minecraft simply because the pesudo-ramdom system is perfect and a minecrafter does not want to be wailed on by 4 creepers constantly and spider skeletons while building...
tl:dr
wont work in MC
I never said i thought it was a good idea, i think its kinda bad, dynamic difficulty kinda ruins games for me, makes it easy when i dont try and therefore not a challenge.
I was just putting my 2 cents in about why it would be hard
Hmm, if you don't try then you'd just die over and over.
I would like an AI director for one reason. when im going about building or farming i would really like the game to go 'clearly he aint looking for a creeper to come get him' and reduce spawn rates. when im exploring, harvesting trees and otherwise have doing unimportant crap it sends mobs a me.
perhaps being unarmed/armoured should reduce/increase spawn rates based on difficulty? i guess that would be down to balancing. another thing to think of would be direction of attack, on hard mode it would try and have you raped from behind where as easy would be more friendly with head on attacks.
No, the AI Director is affected by how well you do against monsters, not what you're doing.
You have to die plenty of times from creepers first until there'd be no creepers when you were farming.
Another factor the AI director can change is the area of spawn.
Currently, monsters can spawn in a 75 block radius from the player, but not 20 blocks away from the player.
The AI Director can tighten up these spawn regions and allow monsters to spawn closer to the player.

When i hear "AI Director" in minecraft.
I can only think of a "hardcore" variable for each player, that rises by the number of killed mobs or falls cu'z the health or time, and agree with Furnose that the director should change the spawn radius.
It depends if you want people on multiplayer to stick together, to survive like L4D(2) or by them self.
I don't know what thinks about it but its a gr8 idea, will make it more fun in multiplayer and supporting it with a big .
Woops,my bad. I couldn't find a better name for this idea, so I just chose AI Director.
Anyways, "Difficulty controlled by how well you do code" doesn't sound that cool.
Yeah, but then if you did too good, the mobs would eventually kill you anyways, so what the hell?

Yep :smile.gif:
Then just make it monitor for something else.

People who say its too easy play on peacful
People who say its too hard play on...
Guess what?
HARD!
I find hard to be too easy :tongue.gif:

Agreed
I think , if that is implemented in the game and i used , only 2 zombies will spawn every night... xD.
But i like the idea of a difficulty that changes depending on your skills.
That will make people that think minecraft is easy , say something like :
Oh minecraft is so easy , i think i can... OMG A GHAST!!!!
Hey guys , i have another suggestion , minecraft is so so so hard so we should...
>_<
Nevermind , this should be implemented into the game , at least as a mod but i want this sh*t!
