A stereotypical fantasy setting would have dwarfs, elves, goblins, trolls, staffs, pointed wizard hats, and dragons. That's not what I want for minecraft.
It did take me a while to make that post. That's because I ate a sandwich in the middle XD. Redstone is very different from electrical weirs. While it is based on them, it is clearly magical, and different from electricity. I know how the D&D universes work, and I am saying that the nether could be part of it. I mean, the elemental chaos is somewhat similar to the nether, and the astral seas are kind of like the new sky dimension notch will eventually add. I am not saying that mincraft should be like D&D, but rather that D&D is a good reference for the fantasy theme.
I'm against wizards and pointy hats, but I see no problem with typical fantasy races. That just boils down to opinion, though, which I think is enough to prove me right; you shouldn't be posting your opinion as fact, nor should opinion really be stickied.
XD. A car, that is a car, but runs on magic instead of gasoline, is still a car, and still does not fit in Minecraft. That really can extend to Redstone, which is why I don't think it would fit in LOTR or D&D. You're right on the Nether/Aether matter, though. I'd still like a reply to my edited version of that.

I think I will edit my post to be a little less aggressive with my opinion, and a little more generally agreeable. My ultimate goal is for everyone to be happy with it and has it act as a helpful guide.

Agreed. It's more like static electricity (like lightning, which exists in fantasy worlds) the way it behaves, if one were to classify it in terms of science. It's a magic dust that glows and carries energy, not some metal wire that has to form a proper circuit.

Dungeons and Dragons is just as good of a fantasy reference as any other fantasy setting. Tolkien wrote some great books, but he is not the be-all end-all of fantasy. Just because something doesn't appear in Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, or Dungeons and Dragons Editions 1-4 doesn't mean it's "not fantasy."

4TH EDITION PWNS ALL!!!
But did you re-read my post? I made it much more general and agreeable, and put a disclaimer at the bottom saying that it was just a guide.
Oh, and this is completely off topic, I love the work you're doing as a mod. The suggestion forum needs as many mods as it can get.
I don't think the new rewrite is any better. I still say whether something is "fantasy" or not is not a valid criteria for deciding if something belongs in Minecraft.

Let me ask you something: Would you like it if notch added FJSRfM?
I'm going to guess that you would say no. But why is that? What part of minecraft doesn't fit with them? I would say the fantasy theme, but you seem to disagree.
I would think it was awesome! That kind of quirkiness fits Minecraft to a tee in my mind. :happy.gif:
Edit: Unless they ended up being overpowered, of course, but that's not an issue of theme. :wink.gif:
Honestly? I'm not sure how to respond to that. But I'm pretty sure that most people would disagree. I know that if they were added, I would facepalm as hard as Picard, and avoid my very best to never come in contact with them. It would really ruin minecraft for me.
Although I will admit that they would make ONE EFIN' COOL MOD!!!
Jens was working on integrating/tweaking the Piston mod, which will probably get delayed as a result of this. We don’t want to just add it as-is because it doesn’t quite feel “fantasy” enough, and there’s a lot of corner cases we need to solve.
That should be the final nail in the coffin for that argument. (damn sticky is still there).

Yep. Don't understand why. I can see why people might not want mine to be up there, but they should also be opposed to the RPG one. So I just don't know. :unsure.gif:
Excellent post. I am happy you managed to keep the post unbiased (unlike other "guideline" threads on this forum). I believe this would help greatly if stickied.

By balance, do you mean make it totally worthless?

The only problem with Flame Jetting Super Robots from Mars is that it has too many ideas wrapped up in one thing. Break it down, and it should be more reasonable. So it's not a question of theme, but a question of implementation.
Flames? Nothing wrong with that. Only the most common thing ever in Minecraft.
Flame Jets? People have already built primitive cannons out of existing materials in Minecraft. Stack up enough TNT, and I don't see why you shouldn't be able to make it into a rocket. A flamethrower? Well, flint and steel comes pretty close, except that it doesn't work at range. I don't think anyone would complain about a fire-breathing dragon though, so a flamethrowing robot also shouldn't necessarily be thrown out.
Super Robots? I'm not sure what "Super" means here, but as for robots, I think it would be just another mob. And who's to say Creepers aren't robots?
Mars? Why not? I think a Mars level would be as easy to code as the Nether, the Aether, the Dreamlands, the Skylands, and any number of other proposed alternate dimensions. It should simply be a matter of changing the world generation parameters, and maybe adding some new blocks. It doesn't even have to be called "Mars" or called out as another planet. It could just be called something like "Moonscape" or "the Wastelands." If I were making Minecraft, I'd use "Vulcan". (look it up, Vulcan was a planet before Star Trek.)

Let me try to get your head around this:
We craft basic tools out of raw material we harvest ourselves.
We mine using a basic pickax made by hand.
We use torches and the sun as our primary lighting sources.
We fight for our lives against rotting undead and odd green monsters.
We explore caves to find ancient ruins and magical loot.
We build portals out of dark violet obsidian.
We explore an alternate realm of fire, lava and floating monsters.
We battle with Flame Jetting Super Robots from Mars.
Do you notice anything that doesn't seem to fit in that list?

Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
Thank you!

Because so far, no mods that have seen it like it. Spread the word!
Will do :smile.gif:
I'll post a link to it for those who don't get the theme.
