I'm finding some really childish replies in this thread. Grow up.
I agree. It's called survival...but it's not that hard to actually survive.
Mobs should be allowed to get inside and attack you. Probably by breaking some blocks, or knocking down doors. And enemies should, within twenty four blocks, hone in on you. I think we need a few more enemy mobs. Beds are fine as they are, imo.
I've suggested in the past that beds don't simply change the time, but rather speed up spawns in the dark and then changing the time. This allows for creepers and other baddies to appear in the morning like they always do, giving that danger of the creeper.
There's many ways to make this game harder.
Just because Minecraft is a sandbox game does not mean it's excused of having challenge. That reasoning is poor as ****. The only reason people use it is because they don't care for the challenge. There are other people that play the game that wish it were more challenging. Furthermore, if you're really that opposed, programmers for a long time have crafted the amazing ability to toggle difficulty.
Notch need only to add a couple factors to the game, and he can please a large span of the audience without pissing anyone off. :/
There are two places in these forums, one for selfish and moronic ideas and those serious and straightforward ones. This deserves in the selfish-moronic aka the Modding Requests (no offense to anyone, except to the guy I quoted and to the OP)
The Modders can get good experience with their skill while you get your petty mod.
The Suggestions Forum is about EVERYONE using Minecraft, and right now I see most of them hating on the thread. Live with the fact that these ideas deserve to be in the modding requests. Don't drag us in your pit of shitty ideas that don't fit. Go on...
I also edited all the water (and ice) into lava, all tree trunks into obsidian, and (once the fine fellas over in Modding mod the block for me), all leaves will become Glowstone (with lowered light to enable mob spawn). And all dirt/grass is soul sand.
I gave myself a full set of wood tools via INVedit to start. No armor. Now my goal is to see how long I can last.
You have clearly missed the point in a sandbox game. The point is to build cool stuff, even make cities and things, not simply to avoid getting killed by all the various things that want to kill you. Yes it is partially a survival game if you set it on any level above peaceful, but that's not the whole idea of the game.
I also have to wonder why everybody agreeing with the original post seems to see minecraft as a competition. The argument seems to be "this is to easy for the noobs". You sound like all those idiots on fps games. This is minecraft, there isn't any competition; and if you really desire competition, find a pvp server.
Now if minecraft's purpose were combat like many of you seem to think, your best weapon wouldn't be a diamond sword. Its primary purpose is as an unrestricted sandbox building game. Only reason there are things that want to kill you in it is because some people like the challenge of building against them, but to say that there needs to be more ways for things to kill you is absurd. Your world is made out of cubes for a reason.
Minecraft doesn't have a "father along", there is no storyline, there is no advancement. Its minecraft, its a sandbox game. Go back to playing whatever other game you are used to playing whose purpose is to advance and survive and whatever.
