I think the damage values on the cake are already being used for the info regarding how much has already been eaten.
15 more types of blocks using up 15 more ID values....
because notch chose an incredibly archaic way to code minecraft...
you knoow notch will do the same thing as he did with wool!
e.g. each colorued cake has the same ID but different damage!!! (clever right?)
You don't get it. The damage value is currently being used for eaten cake.
I think it should be like this:
0x0-0x5 - White Cake
0x6-0x10 - Orange Cake
0x11-0x15 - Magenta Cake
And so on.
How about using cocoa beans instead. For a chocolate cake.
I like the idea but It really has no purpose. It would waste a dye.
It would be better if a dye can add 1 more heart of healing to a cake.
First of all, lapis is not a gem, it is a mineral that can be ground into powder, like salt.
You can make a chocolate cake also. Make both, if you want!
What do you mean "It would waste a dye"? Not any more then dyeing wool would waste dye.
Yes, It would waste a dye like dying a wool.
I said, It would be better if the frosted cake can heal you more than a regular cake
Are you saying that dyeing wool is pointless? Because you can argue with thousand of people who disagree, including Notch himself. And if that is not what you are saying, then how are cakes different?

Dying a piece of wool is pointless. I dye a sheep for more wool.
Short version of what I am trying to tell you : Cake heals 9 hearts, Frosted cake heals 10 hearts.

I get what you are saying. I disagree. Let's you have dye. Dye is an item which is not suppose to do anything practical at all. It is suppose to just make things pretty. You use it on cake with your suggestion? It does something practical. So that dye did not just make things look pretty. It did something it is not suppose to do. In real life, does is a red cake more healthy then a white one? NO. And please, don't pull out the old "Minecraft isn't realistic!" argument.
My first thought upon seeing this was "Oh that is kind of cool." Then I scrolled down. You are using 28 squares on the .png file for different colors of the same item! No! I do not support this. What will you want next? 8 different colored beds? Or perhaps you want to change the color of your door. No. Unless a better system is implemented to change the color of the texture without using so much textures I will not support this.
Here is my suggestion. For each item that can be colored it has a base texture of the color, on top of that texture is the actual texture of the item that has transparencies to allow the color to show through. The same method Blizzard uses to show team color in their games. One texture with transparencies in the right spots, and it simply colors the textures the model in two layers. The color texture is one pixel and does not take much toll on the computer to render.

What is wrong with using a lot of textures? Hmm? Hmmmmm? Nothing! Notch can always add more room.
I never understood why people are always so scared of "using up all of the texture spaces," it will probably take notch ten minutes to add more spaces, it's not very hard to do, people.
