How about this. The volcano biome isn't centered around this idea. However, this structure can appear in volcanic biomes. (though it's quite rare) As I said before, it would be made up of stone, cobblestone, obsidian, and possibly netherrack, albeit they're either indestructible. Then again, with the amount of danger present, why bother? Bedrock doesn't fit in with volcanoes and unless you're using a texture pack, it'd probably look completely out of place. Also, volcanic biomes would not be on the spawnlist and for good reason. Finally, they'd be a little ways out from spawn, but not stupidly far away like Mushroom biomes. Seriously, I generally have to go out 10,000 or so blocks to even find Mushroom Islands, using Fly 4/10 (Singleplayer commands) and it still takes awhile. I've only found three or four Mushroom Islands ever.
Oh, and as I said before, if the chamber's inside the volcano and you need a lever or something to open the iron door, you could just dive in using a Fire Resistance potion (I have many on two of my worlds.) and craft a lever, unless this would be a special type of door (non-iron) that would require a special lever, crafted from dragon-scales or something.

"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.

I will take the Volcano. You can keep the Dragon. :wink.gif:
Dragon Lairs sound interesting, but in my opinion it would be better if they spawned randomly on high places like Mountains and Volcanos, but not in every single Volcano or mountain. Also i expect a REAL "treasure" and an epic fight with the dragon. Or maybe he might be tamed and become good so you can ride him. But of course this will have to be a super hard task.
Volcano Biomes now will be interesting because it would be a challenge to survive in them. And also non-renewable materials will become renewable. Furthermore, a Volcano Biome would provide an opportunity for other stuff to be added.
I don't know what to think. A volcano would add an interesting change to the mix, I honestly do not want to run into volcanoes in MineCraft. Especially ones with dragons.

Dragons+volcanoes=bad that seems like the perfect way to add them?
Dragons+volcanoes=bad that seems like the perfect way to add them?
Yes, it does, but it doesn't mean every volcano should be a dragon's lair. Maybe, it should be like 1-5% of all volcanoes. To be fair, your question asks "Should volcanoes be added (to Minecraft)," not "Should volcanoes be added to Minecraft and all or a select few should also be dragon's lairs." Most of the people that voted, probably were leaning towards the earlier. They just want volcanoes, not Dragon Lairs, maybe not even constantly active volcanoes.
Personally, I'd like to see some volcanoes be active, while others are not. Active volcanoes would only make up 25-30% of the Volcano biome. The rest would be either dormant or Semi-Active (if that's possible to code). Dormant doesn't mean completely safe by the way. There could still be residual lava/ lava flows, inside the cone and maybe Dragon's Lairs aren't limited to active volcanoes. I'd imagine lava pools would be far more common in the volcano biome in general, thus making it a dangerous, albeit rewarding place to mine. Sure, you might hit diamond much closer to surface or even in the remnants of a volcano, but then there's the active cones, increased lava flows, and possibly even a new threat that could be added. (if done right and if possible) (Steam/ ash/ pyroclastic material, that randomly shoot up at you if accidentally mine in bad a spot.)

Thirty-nine people voted yes. In a nutshell, this would leave hollow mountains of bedrock, after the volcanoes stop shooting lava and exploding rocks that is surely going to kill computers.
Wow.
The idea of volcanoes in Minecraft is pretty cool but I think this topic did it all wrong.
Ishould have been waaay more specific lava sources spring up on the mountian with tnt every now and again like 1 boom every cycle and .25% misspell
Thought of something the crying obsidian or whatever it's actually called could be re-textured with a more reddish hue to fit the volcanoes outer layer
the way you described it... NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!
It shouldnt have a dragon, there should only 1-2, and the sides are made of stone... not ****ing bedrock!

I like the idea of new biome, especially a volcanic biome.
I just think the features you describe in your initial post aren't very good ideas. (Putting it lightly)
As I don't see an option for I want a volcano biome, but not the way the OP describes, I will not participate in the poll, but I will post my suggestion for a volcano biome here.
The reason it seems that so many people are for your idea is because the average netzien 1) probably didn't read your whole post, or 2) Voted on your poll before reading your post. or 3) doesn't care what your post says and voted yes, because a volcanic biome would be an interesting idea and the folks at Mojang would probably make it however they wanted with no regard to this thread anyway.
If it was just the poll I would have voted yes for a volcano biome too, but your description kills it, in particular bedrock, an absolutely immovable block being located in a location other than at the absolute bottom of the map.
Now my idea for how a volcanic biome could be implemented.
- I think a volcano biome could simply be a mountainous biome, (sort of like extreme hills)
- Most of the surface could be made of exposed stone / gravel, cobblestone or a new type of volcanic rock (other than obsidian, as having that everywhere would be almost as bad as bedrock).
- Trees/ dirt could be present but they would have no leaves and grass on them.
- The occurence of lava springs/ pools could be multiplied by a factor of 10 or something to add to the atmosphere and increase the danger of living / mining here.
- If a 'Red Dragon' mob was added to the game it could be native to this biome as well, no need of a specific boss chamber or anything, just make it a rare occurence that only will spawn here.
- Also, it could spawn Magma Cubes rather than regular slimes
- The sky /cloud colour could be made more darker or greyer to match the biome.
As far as volcanic erruptions go, it is a cool idea, but would be very hard to implement in game and would likely crash less up to par computers, so a no go really.

I agree that the initial post had some horrible ideas in it.
As for a volcano biome: The max height has been increased, so the biome should be a single volcano taking up the entirety of the biome. Much like the transition between various biomes, the ground color should shift to being extremely dark, almost black. With the most common materials spawning being gravel, stone (obviously), Obsidian occuring in surface pockets near the top/center, Lava (obviously), Cobblestone, Dirt at lower elevations.
Located at the top/center of the Volcano is a wide, deep shaft that continues down vertically 64 blocks and is completely full of lava.
The sky over the Volcano Biome is in continuous shadow with mutliple cloud layers appearing directly above it.
Instead of rainstorms, the Volcano Biome experiences Ashfall, that moves and acts exactly the same as snowfall.
With the accompanyment of rain, there's sometimes thunder and lightning. Just as the rain is replaced, the lightning and thunder is more common and almost continuous within the Biome. Perhaps Fire Charges can fall from the sky as well, but that may very well be excessive.
Red Dragons should harbor an immunity to lava and fire and spawn in the lava in the Volcano Biome during Ashfall.
what?

They took 40 blocks. That’s as many as four tens. And that’s horrible.
