So i have been playing RLcraft recently, when it hit me:
Why does minecraft not have a craftable lexicon?
Something useful like the lexicon from "ice and fire - Dragons" or the biastiary from "lycanites mobs".
But i am aiming for something more complex and grindy, let me explain:
When you enter minecraft the first time, you get some basic tipps on your screen.
For example: use wasd to move or punch a tree.
I think these tipps could be expanded, gathering materials for a craftable minecraft lexicon.
This lexicon could be copied with another "basic" lexicon. (somewhat simular to maps)
The basic lexicon would have an indepth starter guide and could then be extended by adding scripts.
But what could said lexicon contain?
I think information about mobs would be a good start. These scripts could work as rare mob drops.
But what about people who don't like to kill other beeings?
(maybe including all hostile mobs)
I'd like to see some suggestions from you about this small but relevant topic.
Technical information about biomes would be cool too. These could be found as treasure loot by eather fishing (in the specific biome) or exploring structures (like simple dungeons or pyramids ect).
Some villagers might trade you random scripts, just like enchanted books. Thats all i've come up with 'till now.
I think there should be more "events" then killing and looting chests for scripts.
This could be a real thing. A lexicon you can fill by traveling all over the world, the nether and the end.
Some pages could contain trivia datas (like how the creeper was accidently created)
Feel free to add your suggestions. But please: Don't suggest anything about lore. Minecraft is a sandbox game imo.

Lore stuff belongs to lore-threads.
Partial support. Rather than items, I'd rather have advancement-like system where every time you explore a biome, damage/create/interact with an entity or destroy a block you get information related to it.
The information may be branch-wise, for example mining iron ore would explain the entirety of iron-tier gear, golden ore entirety of golden gear and food types, etc.

Dwarf gamer found:
Buildings - square, not round
Materials - from rubble mound
Dark caves - lit 'n' cleaned out
Settlements - deep underground
Farmability - to grinder bound
Shields - made creepers but sound
Axes and crossbows - taking mobs out
I have mixed feelings about this idea. One of the odd things with minecraft is that despite a lot of mechanics that aren't initially clear, the fact that it's so incredibly popular means that pretty much everyone knows the intricacies of the game. (Even so, Mojang consistently adds things like ruined portals to give new players a hint as to how to do things.) While you can generally look things up with most games, Minecraft is one of those rare games that's so incredibly popular, you're hard pressed to find someone who doesn't know how to play.
Another notable point is that such a system would invariably include lore- and I agree with the OP's reluctance towards lore. While there's certainly a lot of potential in that direction, Mojang has a very good reason to keep the lore vague and ambiguous: It allows players to develop their own stories, and, in fact, this ambiguity is actually one of those things that makes the game more interesting. However, I don't think there really is a way to add some sort of lexicon system without also adding lore.
...Ultimately, my opinion is that the Lexicon would make sense system wise, but wouldn't be worth the effort of implementing, especially when we already have things like the crafting book to clear up most of the remaining confusion over progression and whatnot. It would be sort of cool if you could collect different books with information on various aspects of the game, but this would also inevitably tread into lore territory. Considering just how widely known most of the game's mechanics are, a Lexicon wouldn't really make sense, even if this is for circumstances that are sort of outside the scope of the game itself.
