It's not actually that easy , even if I don't have a diamond pickaxe , it's technically very easy to make a portal by using the dream method or simply just by putting lava on the ground and pouring water on it , 10 times to create a portal .
I also don't know. Obsidian is a glass like material in real life , so it should be mineable by using any pickaxe.
But then people can easily get obsidian and go to the nether where blaze rods are there and win Minecraft so I think it should only be breakable using a diamond pickaxe

You don't need a diamond pickaxe, just a bucket of water and a lavapool.
If you are very lucky, you spawn next to a portal ruin without crying obsidian as well as enough obsidian + 1 firecharge in the chest.
I don't think we need a recipe for obsidian but the mining time could be reduced.

My projects:
-are abandoned for now. I might pick 'em up in the future.
For now i'm working on a private modpack that suit's my own playstyle.
I am gonna stay in modded 1.12.2 untill my potato dies. No mercy! :Q
But it completely makes sense that lava and water make obsidian in a crafting table !! Also , I agree mining time should be much lesser than ancient debris.

It makes sence but you can't stack water buckets.
You would need to shift-click the recipe over and over again, like dispensers while you can just mine obsidian towers from top to bottom.

This makes no sense, the crafting table is a flammable block.
Also obsidian is not something that you craft, it is a state of matter after lava has cooled.
The current mechanics are fine just the way they are, my only issue with the lava mechanics in the overworld atm is basalt doesn't generate naturally in the Overworld, and this could be changed in an update beyond 1.17.
Basalt is a naturally occurring substance in real life, we don't exactly need to go to another dimension to find it.
Same thing with obsidian, it's here, in the ground, as it should be.
Also a known fact about obsidian, it's a type of glass, very brittle I might add.
By the way the critique I made has nothing to do with it being "too easy",
I think ruined portals already done that job for players, who no longer need to bring in obsidian with them into the Nether in case they get lost.
Obsidian should be crafted by using water and lava in a crafting table !!
Nah, this would make it a bit too easy to get obsidian. There is a reason why you can only obtain it by using a diamond pickaxe

I don't understand why obsidian takes so long to mine compared to other blocks.
Is it becouse of overworld-goldfarms?

I'm not really getting why we would need this.
Obviously becouse it's not hard to mine large amounts of obsidian. It's just annoying.
