The addition of rooted dirt provides us with another new type of soil block- along with the likes of podzol, coarse dirt, etc. Strangely, however, these dirt types don't seem to be especially well utilized in Vanilla terrain generation. You get Podzol in bamboo forests and some conifer forests, Coarse dirt presumably shows up somewhere, (Though I've never actually encountered it), and rooted dirt, thusfar, will only be found under Azalea trees.
...This doesn't really make sense to me. One thing I particularly like about certain terrain generation mods is how they change up forests to include more variations of trees, and a more diverse forest floor- consisting of patches of podzol, coarse dirt, and normal grass. This is a pretty small change, but it makes everything seem so much more immersive.
I would recommend, firstly, that terrain generation makes more use of podzol and coarse dirt, and, secondly, that rooted dirt generates in small amounts under all trees, not just azaleas.
FYI, Coarse Dirt shows up in Redwood forests as well as some Badlands & Savanna variants.
That said, I wouldn't mind a pass looking at dirt/grass variants and shifting around how they spawn. For example, regular Oak/Birch forests should be a mixture of Grass & Podzol, while Jungles & Spruce forests of all types should primarily be Podzol (you could even argue for a greener version of Podzol for the Jungle). Rooted dirt is fine exclusive to Azaleas/Lush caves IMO, but I could also see it being associated with the block immediately under any given tree. Coarse dirt should remain fairly exclusive to Badlands & Savannas, with more-limited spawns in Redwoods
