it would enable people to add more fine details to their builds, but Mojang apparently doesn't wish to add it for some reason.
It's a headache, but the only way to circumvent this is mods, which just feels wrong.
I understand the terrain generating and looking the way it does given the game's intended aesthetic, but beyond that we are severely limited in what we can build. Until Mojang actually listens to their fans I'm afraid that will never change.
This is not going to change any time soon- though the reasons are somewhat complex. ...While this would be cool, it would render many existing building projects outdated if such a fundamental change were made to the system. One of the issues with a big studio like Mojang is that they have to find a balance between keeping players interested with useful new content, without changing existing content so much that players get ticked off. As such, there are certain fundamental systems of Minecraft that will never change- even if it makes sense.

Ticked off? They did this to me and some friends of mine when they brought out the Nether update and made Nether fortresses a lot rarer and a total nuisance to find. We used to be able to find a Nether Fortress within 500 blocks from the first portal almost every time, but now after several attempts me and my friends haven't even found one although we found a couple of Bastions along the way in the current world we're on.
What makes you think this is the reason they're refusing to add sideway slabs? they've been breaking fundamentals of the game already with changes to the world generator. So don't give us that argument that they care about keeping core mechanics of the game consistent, because they clearly don't.

I agree why would you need it because slabs are already in the game so it should not exist in my mind but maybe it will change and we will get it but you never know.

My bet is they won't, because Mojang are more likely to listen to influential Youtubers and Minecon goers than average joe who comments on forums. When was the last time they actually paid attention to us or implemented a feature in accordance with our wishes? I doubt sideway slabs are going to happen any time soon or within the next decade, it took them 2 console generations to implement an increased world height and depth in the upcoming and highly requested Cave update, which has nothing to do with sideway slabs but is an example that you can go a full decade and have your opinions be completely ignored.
This was suggested from a friend, She would like slabs that are sideways like a wall yet it's a slab. This I think should be in the 1.17 update
