Support. They should also get some auxiliary use, for example in alchemy.

Totalitarian architecture. Angular, defensible masonry over sleek, sloped carpentry.
Taking it slow. Provoking into attack typically does better rushing.
Underground engineering. Well-lit tunnels are much safer and often cheaper than any surface construct.
Farmability. One of primary concerns relating to any feature.
Practical mobs. No annoyances taking up space and processor power.
Generalism and simplicity. Overly complicated and specialized concepts hardly ever come into fruition.
Frankly, any use would be fantastic for poisonous potatoes. At this point, they're decidedly amongst the most useless objects in the entire game. Some use in brewing would be great, composting would at least make an easy way to get rid of them. There could also be some other specialized use, such as some sort of food object that requires poisonous potatoes in order to provide some special effect like potion immunity- in the Quark Mod, poisonous Potatoes can be used on baby animals to prevent them from aging. ...Yeah, there are lots of ways that these weird potatoes could be given a use, and composting would definitely be a good start.
For the time being we can only throw poisonous potatoes into a cactus or lava to dispose of them since they have no use. But I agree, being able to compost potatoes regardless of whether or not they are spoiled should be doable and it makes sense.
Potatoes don't just stop being useful for composting just because they are spoiled, in fact in real life all food waste gets recycled, unless perhaps it has been contaminated with something carcinogenic, it doesn't matter if they went moldy or had a bad smell or not. You can still use spoiled/decayed/rotten food for making compost, decaying is the natural process in which food waste becomes dirt, aided by worms and bacteria of course.
I like the way poisonous potatoes are. It‘s just like a joke which i think shouldn‘t be removed.
It's probably intentional, but it doesn't make it a good thing, joke or not it's a useless item no one is going to care for, in fact it's one of the few items I would throw in lava or on a cactus, along with curse of binding and vanishing equipment. The fact you can't even compost poisonous potato is asinine, I agree with the thread maker.
Maybe if you gave poisonous potato to the farmer villager it could receiver poison effect for couple of seconds or give you corrupted trades.
Being able to compost them makes a lot more sense. Having them in villager trades is a pointless thing since there are enough ways to trade renewable items with them. At the moment poisonous potato is completely useless, and is a much worse item than rotten flesh.
Rotten flesh has uses already, trades with clerics and you can feed Wolves it to breed them. You can also save your own skin from starvation by eating it although that is absurd, because in real life rotten flesh would kill you from food poisoning.
I do agree that you should be able to turn rotten flesh into compost though, and dirt blocks.
