In Minecraft, there are ocean ravines that sometimes have magma coming out of those ravines. It is pretty nice detail to have, but there is something much cooler and could add a little more danger into your survival world, and this time, on land.
I think Minecraft should add volcanoes. I think this because it would be a cool touch to the Minecraft worlds itself. Volcanoes can also have it's own unique biome and have some things that other players would like such as: Generating useful ores and material in the volcano, possibly Ancient Debris, and having a new unique monster that spawns in the volcano biome. It could have some extra touches to it such as eruptions, which will only affect sound and camera shaking within the biome. If Minecraft wants to go into the extremes they could make lava come out of the volcanoes every now and then. Maybe some rumbling sound effects that gives the player 5 minutes to react before the volcano erupts. Back to the biomes, there could be Volcanic lslands, or Mountain ranges (Different from our typical mountain ranges in Minecraft.)
Volcanoes can not only have 2 unique biomes and have new useful ores and a new monster, but it can also be an important step into finding the nether. I understand that there are lava pools that are spread around the world, but the thing is the lava pools are boring and bland. They are just small body's of lava sitting there just waiting for someone to use it to make a Nether Portal or something.
This is why I think volcanoes should be added into Minecraft. Volcanoes could add a new unique experience to Minecraft. It would be interesting to see volcanoes being added into the Minecraft Caves and Cliffs update. (These are just a few ideas I got from my replies so give them some credit as well.)
...While I think something like this could be implemented, and could be pretty cool, it would be important to be very careful about how it was added. One of Mojang's big design principles is that there aren't any 'natural disasters-' proper preperation and knowledge on the players part will allow them to avoid dangerous situations. They don't want to add disasters that the player can't do anything about- even the Wither, which is pretty much the equivalent of a natural disaster, has to be summoned by players.
This isn't to say volcanoes are a bad idea- rather that they'd be better as a unique biome, rather than a natural disaster. As you mentioned, an eruption mechanic would be pretty difficult to implement anyways. A volcano could act as a new and unique challenge, generating useful ores and materials within, possibly even ancient debris- but also containing an abundance of lava- possibly a unique, lava themed monster. (This is just my take.) ...Still, it would certainly be interesting to see something like this in Caves and Cliffs. As you also mentioned, lava lakes are kind of boring- and if the frequency were turned way down, finding and exploring a volcano could become an important step to entering the Nether.
Yes, you have some fair points. I like some of the ideas you added to, such as: Volcanoes generating useful ores and materials, and having a lava monster. As I said, Minecraft doesn't necessarily need to add those eruptions and earthquakes since they would be hard to impliment into the game, as you said also. You did give some pretty nice ideas for the volcano suggestion, so I may edit that into my original post. Thank you for your opinion.
It could have some extra touches to it such as eruptions, although it could be a hard thing to implement into the game. (Volcanoes don't necessarily need to erupt or have any other natural disaster in it)
You could have both. The eruptions could only affect sound and camera shaking, while you are within vulcanic biome.
I would not add netherrite to overworld biomes. Instead some new blocks like ash alltough mojang could actually use black concrete powder for this one.
Maybe add some rare geyser blocks that splash out water paticles over time!
Lava is not realy a thing here, its already in the game.

Agreed on non-erupting volcanos in their own dedicated biome, but disagree on Ancient Debris being found there, as it seems pretty clear that the intention for that is to be Nether-exclusive. I would add small veins of Obsidian though, as remnants of previous eruptions that have solidified.

Agreed!
And cobblestone and basalt as well, the latter is very common volcanic rock.
I'd like to have volcanoes as a sort of natural structure that generates in mountain biome from time to time and has lots of magma rocks scattered around and a huge hole filled with a column of lava all the way to bedrock.

I'm cool with volcanoes in Minecraft, but only if they are limited to 2 new specific biome types, volcanic islands and mountain ranges (different to the ones we already have).
in both biome types there should be active volcanoes spewing lava every once in a while, everything from hot springs which is basically water superheated by magma firing jets of super hot of water from underground to the surface, which would need a new physics engine to apply, to actual lava or molten rock rolling down sides of the cones of the volcanoes themselves and then forming long rivers that go out to sea.
Mining should not be safe in these biomes btw, there should be a loud rumbling sound giving players about 5 minutes to react and get out of the cave system that is within the biome before the eruption. But if they fail to pay attention in time, the lava engulfs them and traps them, and without a fire resistance potion they're toast.
The benefit of these biomes besides providing endless amounts of lava is these particular biomes should have a chance to regenerate certain ores underground, so there is a great risk vs reward ratio here. You get a slightly better supply of redstone, diamonds, lapis etc, but you also risk dying in a magma chamber if you fail to escape before time is up and a magma column makes its way up through the ground to the mountain tops and vents on the side.
Volcanoes in my opinion should remain active for 5 in-game days, in which time the lava cools, the magma chambers in the interior still remaining hot until roughly 9 in-game days have passed, where the majority of the magma eventually cools off to become a mixture of basalt, stone, water and ores underground, when the cooling process has finished, that's when they'd be safe to enter again, but the player needs to pay attention to avoid being killed. If you don't have a functioning soundcard and at least a pair of cheap earphones or speakers, then sorry to bring this up, but your computer isn't suited for gaming, audio is just as important as video.
But volcanic eruptions should occur more or less at random, between a period of 15 to 58 in-game days.
However some extra programming and safeguards should be applied to stop the lava from building up too much on the exterior, to prevent unnatural looking structures forming, and to prevent worlds and adjacent biomes being destroyed or causing excessive amounts of lag, ultimately though this will definitely mean the system requirements will have to go up to compensate for these new features, as it is a lot for your computer to process at once with everything else.

Let's say you would like to play a single biome world. How would you be able to mine down there?
This is more like natural desaster, even if the player is warned and has time to react, every vulcano biome would in the end become messed up.

Volcanoes to me would make much more sense as a randomly generating superstructure within certain biomes (such as mountain ranges), or a sub-biome within a volcanic-themed biome, similar to how mesa plateaus generate within mesa biomes.
As for what you could find there, I think it would be neat to find basalt and tuff in abundance within a volcanic biome; These blocks are a pretty cool alternative to stone, but it would be nice to be able to have a more accessible way of mining them out on a larger scale. In addition, as said above, random veins of obsidian would also make sense, in addition to magma blocks. Surface lava pools (and especially lava waterfalls) should generate more commonly in a volcanic biome as well, and would make the biome that little bit more hazardous to traverse.
Stuff like natural eruptions or adding a new mob is stuff that I don't feel is especially necessary. Blazes would be a perfectly suitable fire-themed mob to include as a naturally occuring, albeit rare, spawn in or near a volcano.

I'd rather they generate within newer biome types because then players know exactly where they are and have some way to predict when one will pop up next, and in a random location within a specific biome type until a cone is formed, then the cone becomes the general area where the lava erupts, although there is a chance eruptions happen 128 blocks next to it and then the eruptions have a probability to continue off in that direction or remain in the previous site of eruption, it would work like a tectonic plate system. With volcanic eruptions being somewhat predictable after the first cone, players could then build inflammable bases there which would be something interesting for them to do.
We could even have lava lakes that are constantly pumping out lava to sea via lava rivers, but some safeguards are needed to stop the lava from piling up excessively and ruining said biomes. On a volcanic mountain biome type, cones are pretty much everywhere, so it is okay for eruptions to happen at random in any location within that biome, but still safeguards are necessary to stop the biome being ruined, perhaps make the volcanoes dormant after the mountain peak reaches 256 Y?.
I completely agree with the rare Blaze spawn near volcanoes part.
Even though volcanoes could have the ability to erupt, and people might not want them to destroy their builds, it's all good! If volcanoes are added to 1.17 or 1.18, and beyond, they could simply add a gamerule that can simply be toggled in the new world creation screen introduced in 1.16, or on a world with cheats, by typing in (for example) "/gamerule volcanoesErupt false." Plus, if they add more world customization options, you might be able to remove them altogether. (I'm not sure if you're still able to do that, haven't been following world types ever since they added Buffet.) Overall I think volcanoes would be an awesome addition to Minecraft.
I support volcanoes and volcanic biomes (I even added them myself) but not volcanic eruptions, which would be very difficult to implement in any case and natural disasters will always get a "no" from me (including caves getting flooded with lava, I am quite particular to keeping the caves I explored intact even if I never visit them again since I consider them to be the equivalent of other player's builds and these maps I make rely on player-placed torches); my solution to make them more dangerous was to remove all water (aside from rivers that pass through them) and greatly increase the generation of lava springs and lakes and add silverfish stone, helping offset the doubled amount of ores, and replaced slimes with magma cubes (including above the surface, they spawn in any light level and are immune to fire):
This is an analysis of a 100 chunk area, including ores and other common blocks that generate as part of the biome; most ores are about twice as common as normal; emerald is relatively more common than it is in other biomes with it, including actual veins in addition to single blocks. Note the complete absence of water, which will only be present when flowing in from adjacent biomes (it does rain despite the temperature being that of desert), there are also "dead trees" scattered around, mostly leafless as if they were blasted away by eruptions, so wood can be found, in addition to sticks from dead bushes:
For comparison, this was 100 chunks of a different biome with a similar average altitude and normal ore generation (diamond and redstone seem low because I lowered their ranges to accommodate a lower lava level, which reduces the overall amount but the density when branch-mining or caving is the same; vanilla 1.6.4 has about 3.1 and 25 per chunk while 1.8+ has about 3.7 and 29):

Liquids, especially lava, are very static in Minecraft, I wouldn't count on any eruptions.
Also, dynamic lava cooling on its own to leave ores behind? Way too exploitable!
Hot springs don't really appeal to me as being anything more than pools with magma floors. As I said, liquids are relatively static, and geysers are too small to fit in a single block.
There are no temperature mechanics except freezing to death immersed in snow or being on fire, so no cooling down mechanics.
Oh, and I almost forgot... Mojang will not implement any natural distasters.
What I think they could add, though, are magma cubes spawning in dark places, or a similar mob being "burned" variant of conventional Overworld mob... Perhaps incendiary creeper that spawns only below sea level? Devs like to personify natural hazards as mobs, such as Stray with slowing arrows imitating cold slowing people down.
Ores being different is something I approve - there should be much more granite, diorite, andesite as well as some basalt in the biome, and while coal should be practically nonexistent, and maybe lapis and redstone too, while metalic ores and diamonds should be much more abundant than elsewhere.

Affirmative!
Though when I think about it, Magma Cubes are the staple mob of Basalt Deltas, so I think that we should have Incendiary Creepers as counterparts.
Also, I think we should have different ore composition - less Redstone, Lapis, no Coal, maybe not Emeralds either (they are staple of regular mountains), but much more metals and diamonds instead.
Oh, and magma blocks are present on ocean bottoms already, so we may have them here too.
The easy fix for that is to not include the volcano biomes in the single biome world type.
Screw single biome worlds!
We have the Void, Basalt Deltas and End Biomes on the list, ergo, it is acceptable for such worlds to be borderline unplayable without cheats/creative!

They don't have to destroy builds, according to this suggestion I added to the original posters thread, players could be informed in the update notes that they are exclusive to rare biome types, in addition to this volcanic eruptions could be limited to cones, mountains and ravines, fissures in the ground, which are not safe for building bases next to anyway unless you built a fence along the lip of the cliffs with perhaps a bridge going across.
I think it is a better and fairer idea to just introduce newer biome types that have not yet generated in people's worlds so that players know what to expect.
If volcanic eruptions were limited to cones or fissures in the ground they would result in far fewer cheap deaths or rage quits.
in addition, volcanoes could become dormant when their maximum height has been reached, permanently halting hazard on topside but still having reservoirs of magma underground. This could also be the only biome type where exposed lava naturally cools without water after a set time period.
And there is potential for these biome types to massively improve existing worlds, from having a chance to regenerate gemstones and minerals underground making them a somewhat risky but good mining locations, to lava and obsidian, while also adding in basalt.
but exist in amplified and regular world types only, not flat or buffet world types.
As I said before though if these were to be introduced, players would need to be warned before a volcanic eruption starts,
giving them time to escape the biome. There could be both an audio warning by sounds of the ground rumbling, and Bad Omen, an existing status effect that initiates raids, but now starts a volcanic eruption in volcano biomes if the player remains in the biome by the time the count down ends, giving players plenty of time to escape before a volcanic eruption starts via a cone or ravine opening in the ground.

You completely forget about player absolute ability to alter surroundings.
What about strip mining?
Closing off fissure parts with 1-block walls of cobblestone?
Widening cracks to farm as much as possible?
Fissures and cracks being removed from existence due to cooling rock filling them completely?
Cooling rock covering structures built by player?
Raids are started by entities magically teleporting about 50 blocks or so near village and going nearby, entities unable to damage any solid blocks and easily stopped by a cheap cobblestone wall or a fence, so they cannot be compared to lava, which, being liquid, is a kind of block entity, especially considering it creates solid blocks when cooling down.

The easy fix for that is to not include the volcano biomes in the single biome world type.
TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
