With the addition of Bastions, piglins have become the guardians of some pretty epic loot, such as netherite and undamaged enchanted gear. The problem is that piglins are by default passive if you wear gold, so they don't pose much of a threat. They become aggressive if you open a chest, hit them, or mine gold. Those last two are fine, but the chest detection needs some work. It only triggers when you actually open a chest, so technically you could use a hopper and just transfer the items directly into your inventory with nobody stopping you. I haven't tested this, but I think you could just break the chest and steal the items. It makes the loot far to easy to obtain - You just need to wear gold, not be greedy, and carry a hopper with you.
I have multiple suggestions to fix this:
Make piglins become hostile whenever you attach a hopper to a chest or break a chest.
Make piglins become hostile whenever you place a hopper.
Make piglins become hostile if you're holding a hopper.
Make piglins seek to collect items from the floor if they're from one of their chests.
Make piglins become hostile whenever you stay near one of the generated chests for a specified amount of time, instead of opening it.
Make piglins become hostile whenever you look at one of their chests within a certain distance.
Of course, not all could be implemented, but at least one of these would fix the problem (with the addition of implementing either #1 or #4, because those are the only ones that address the "break a chest" problem).
Also, piglins appear to only become hostile if they're looking at you. I suggest changing that to if they're close enough to hear the sound.
To download the other ones you need to make a folder in the versions folder for minecraft and put the client and JSON file for the versions in there. They all need to be named the same aside from file extensions. Once you do that, you will be able to choose that version when making a new profile with the minecraft launcher.
I can get around maybe some more aggression from them, but maybe not to the extreme with the hoppers.
How would you suggest balancing loot obtainability if the player is still allowed to use hoppers? Really they could raid any chest with no consequence using this method.

Maybe the Piglins could become hostile if an item was removed from a chest by any means. This would apply to hoppers as well as basic looting, and it would add the balance you desire.
