Nether wasps (or whatever better name someone will come up with) are a mob found in the nether. They resemble worms with wings. They are about 2m long. They are dark red/blue, with stripes of yellow (red/blue depends on the biome). They spawn in structures that form on the roof of the nether. These structures spawn above warped/crimson forests. They have a main chamber, made of netherrack, warped/nether wart blocks, shroomlite, and nether cells. Nether cells are blocks which are directional, like logs, and have crimson and warped variants. They are most easily broken with an axe. Nether wasps will use nether cells similar to how normal bees use bee nests, except that they will use any nether cell in their hive. Crimson/warped honey and crimson/warped honeycombs can be harvested from them. The hive is inset into the nether's roof, when there is space. Under the main chamber are flat irregular things made of warped/crimson honey. These are honey variants which are blue/red variants of honey, that do not stick to other sticky blocks. There are also nether cells in the honey things. Nether wasps can fly. They will take nether fungi from the ground to the hive, similar to bees bringing flower pollen. If a nether wasp collects 10 fungi of the opposite variant in a row (a red nether wasp gets 10 warped fungi and vice versa), they will change colour. The colour does not affect anything about them. They are hostile to the player, unless the player crouches in a plant from the nether. They deal 4 damage each attack. The nether wasps can be pacified by feeding them honeycombs/honeybottles. Nether wasps will become hostile again if they any member of the hive is attacked. In the hive's chamber, there is a queen nether wasp. The queen nether wasp is slow, has no wings, cannot fly, and is 5m long, however, if the player gets 2 queen nether wasps close enough, they can breed, to create more nether wasps. Nether wasps drop 1-3 nether fungi.
This sounds pretty interesting. It could be improved a little more, though. Take the new kinds of honey you suggested. If there are two kinds, one could extinguish you and the other could give you a short boost of fire resistance (maybe 10 seconds). Maybe drinking one (or both) could even give the player some "pheromone" effect that makes all types of bees/nether mobs ignore them. Then the player would have a reason to risk going that high up and dying of fall damage. Other than that...
How common are nether hives?
How large are the hives if each bee is two meters? (Roughly six and a half feet for my other Americans.)
How much health/damage would the nether bees do?
What would their fungi drops look like? It may be easiest for them to drop 0-2 of their respective mushroom like how zombies drop flesh.
Should nether bees occasionally drop their new type of honey when killed by a player?
Would nether bees give harmful effects like bees poisoning? I think warped bees could give nausea while crimson could give blindness or maybe even a flash of wither.
Would they sting (only allowing for one attack before dying like overworld bees) or biting (allowing for infinite attacks)?
Are nether bees part of the passive or hostile cap? (Only seven passives can spawn at any time, but they never despawn. Meanwhile, dozens of hostile mobs can exist at a time, but if they don't have name tags. they can despawn with distance.)
Will nether bees respawn? They could use the queen as a trigger (explained later), or they could spawn within the hive itself like guardians or pillager outposts.
Would crimson and warped nether bees attack each other?
Can they breed?
Can they breed between crimson and warped variants?
Can nether bees survive in the Overworld, or would they die like how Snow Golems melt in the Nether? Would they be unable to use portals like wolves?
Can nether cells be moved with Silk Touch?
How often would nether cells generate within hives? (You said nether bees could use any cell within the hive. This could lead to a problem, as the nether is already very laggy and nether cells would have to be block entities to function this way. Limiting the number of them would help with lag, though.)
Do nether cells have a specific tool? Based on the beehive tool using the axe, I feel like that would fit best, but the pickaxe may work, too.
Does the queen nether bee have a purpose, or was she just added because hives have queens? These structures could stand out from others if, for instance, the queen was responsible for nether bee spawning. So by killing her, no more would spawn, and a player could safely harvest the hive. But at the same time, if a player wanted to farm nether bees, they may have to keep the queen alive to make sure the bees won't die.
Do these new types of honey blocks only generate, or can they be crafted like standard honey?
I'm assuming nether cells could be harvested like beehives or bee nests using shears. Would they drop honeycombs that could be crafted into warped and crimson honeycomb blocks?
How do nether bees react to overworld bees? (This isn't as important, but some kind of special interaction between the two would be a neat touch.)
You said the hive is inset into the Nether's roof. Does that mean a player could use them to find a spot where the roof's bedrock is nonexistent and therefore reach the flat top? (If so, that needs to change immediately. Mojang doesn't like that area being accessible in Survival mode, ever.)
Nether bees flying down from a hive to find fungi may require pathfinding AI that's too complicated for the current game, especially before 1.16 releases. They'd be very likely to get stuck inside corners, they may suffocate, fly into lava, and so on. Then there's the issue of looking into another biome that may be hundreds of blocks away and through solid layers to find some fungi. (Remember, the ceiling's bedrock has several layers of netherrack below it.) It may be a better idea to either lower nether hives closer to the ground or have the game generate a trove of fungi by a hive, which would also look like the nether bees settled there because of the fungi. Do you agree with this, or are you adamant Mojang could find some way to make it work as you suggested?
With the 1.16 Nether changing from a barren wasteland to a corrupted, almost mirrored version of the Overworld, it opens up a lot of possibilities for new additions. Previous ideas that were inconceivable are now very much possible. Your idea is great, and if it was fleshed out more, it may stand a chance on the official suggestion subreddit that Mojang reads.
And as a final note, to fit the Nether's more dangerous theme, it may be more appropriate to call them Nether Wasps instead of Nether Bees.

Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
I added some more ideas. Also, I don't think that the pathing would be that hard. All it involves is leaving the nether hive, going down until they reach a solid block, and then looking for fungi. Then on the return, they go up, and path into the hive, or just use the external nether cells.

Personnally I don't like this idea of 'being a mirror'.. IMHO the nether is the equivalent of 'Hell' so although I do like the idea of the new biomes (& especially the new ore) - this 'dimension' should be filled with more unique hostiles and not just have variants of existing mobs found in the wilderness (Survival of the fittest to exist in this dimension etc)
I DO like the idea though of how they 'resemble worms with wings.' but maybe instead of a variant - create a totally new mob..
'Nether worms' perhaps..
These only spawn in certain nether biomes as suggested and ONLY on a particular biome 'ground block'
They have 'nests' that sit on the ground (like a 'mole hill' perhaps - design is similar to the top half of an Enderdragon egg maybe?)
Not sure about having the nest work similar to the hives.. but maybe it just gradually fills up over time if there fungus growing nearby (fungus will grow similar to mushrooms)
they attack player from below ground if the nest is approached (stinging the player) - small worm like tentacles in the ground that appear (they can only appear in the ground block of the biome - not in netherrack soul sand etc & only ~ 5 blocks radius)
AS WELL AS
They can fall from the trees if the tree is disturbed (ie being cut down) & stick to the player causing small 'stinging damage' until the player sprints away or rapidly jumps for a while - where they eventually 'drop off'
Killing the worms drop a form of string that is fire resistant/sticky & can be used in crafting - maybe to produce a 'carpet' of sorts that can be placed over lava/fire & not burn.. maybe have a couple of variant carpets..
..a standard non-flamable carpet (Netherworm string only) or a sticky variant (Nether worm string & slime balls)
If placed over lava or fires.. the carpet doesn't burn & smoke/lava particles don't pass through them
BUT anything walking over can get damaged by the heat/flame that's underneath, while the sticky variant also causes a slow down effect while walking over them - Ideal for mob traps etc
The nest contains a honey like substance that can be used in potions to offer improvements to the fire resistance (longer time maybe ??) or to give temporary fire protection & healing when drunk 'neat' from a bottle
You can make farms of this similar to the bees so you can harvest the substance by placing the nest over a hopper and having fungus growing nearby
Nether Wasps seem pretty cool. Imagine having some sort of wart splash potion that you could throw that would have the wasps swarm others or a potion you could drink that would attract them, causing the wasps to protect you against other mobs. A life time away, but still a cool idea.

So pheromones like I suggested, but in addition to them pacifying, you can rally them against anything opposing you or even have them target an individual? I like that idea. It'd have neat implications for PvP servers, at least.

I have an additional idea for nether wasps: they can spawn over warped forest (but not crimson forest). While the nest will only be in warped forest or hanging over the abyss, if a nest happens to be near a crimson forest, the wasps will fly to it and attempt to pollinate the crimson mushrooms there and/or sting the local piglins and hoglins. Piglins and hoglins should fear the wasps and either run away or attack, but not be very effective due to the wasps' speed and agility.
