Basically, what I'm thinking is, some people want to be able to play Minecraft with friends, but they don't have the spare money to buy servers and they don't have the knowledge or can't be bothered to port-forward their router. I'm thinking there should be a button somewhere saying "Open to WAN" where it automatically port-forwards a server, giving you an IP for people outside of your LAN to join.

I'm not sure if anyone else has posted this suggestion, sorry if they have.
I just like the idea. I hope others agree with me.
If you have these limitations, you can at least install some kind of auto vpn. Back in the days I used to use Hamachi on windows (today on Linux I have better options, even if they're not so quickly deployed).

This would be great and my friends and I could play on a server together whenever we want.

Just use Hamachi.
It would make alot of things more straight forward for less technologically adept people instead of having to use hamachi

They should give you a “port forward server” free of charge. It would defeat their business model of making you pay for a realm.
But realms exists and is popular on bedrock which has free multiplayer.
