I think they should add a thirst meter into Minecraft. It can be always filled on Peaceful mode, it can be filled by staying in the water for several seconds and you can clean your water using a water purifier, which is something they should also add to minecraft.

therefore...
1. Drowning
2. There is no such thing as pathogenic microbes in Minecraft so no need for Water Purifier...cause you can drink any type of water in Minecraft ( rain, swamp, river, ocean)
For me, they better add Deep-sea Monsters and Sea Predators.
1. It is so easy to refill the thirst gauge it has no purpose. Water is extremely common and easily carried, so the only time I am at a real risk is in the Nether, where you *can't* place water. But you can still drink bottles of water which I assume works the same way.
2. You add a water purifier without explaining why it is needed, how it is used, or how to make it. If my thirst is filled from standing in water, why do I need it? How is it made? How do I use it?
3. This seems to be an attempt to imitate the Hunger system without understanding WHY the Hunger system exists. It isn't just a bar to fill for funsies and to give a reason for food to exist (as well as healing potions, as food used to just restore HP). It is an overarching system that enables multiple abilities like health regen and sprinting, as well as punish people for not using it with the starvation effect.
A thirst system needs to fill a similar role. It needs to provide benefits for using it and drawbacks from failing to manage it properly. It needs to require some effort to maintain, but not be tedious.
I could see a thirst system working in tandem with the Hunger system. If plain water bottles stacked up to 16, they could provide a 3 Thirst points each time you drink one, so you need 7 bottles to go from 0 Thirst to 20 Thirst (assuming it functions like Hunger and has 20 units).
To include your water purification idea, you could fill cauldrons with water over a heat source (lava, fire, or camp fire) and after 10 seconds the water becomes purified water, and restores 5 Thirst per bottle, taking the total number of bottles to fill the bar down to 4.
To make this bar have a purpose, it could act like a multiplier for Hunger. Having full or near full Thirst could reduce the Hunger lost from doing things by 50% or something like that. Having moderate Thirst doesn't do anything for your Hunger, and having low Thirst could increase Hunger lost by doing things by 25%.
If you lose all your Thirst you become dehydrated and take damage just like you do when you have 0 Hunger (down to 10 HP on Easy, 1 HP on Normal, and it can kill you on Hard). Heck as an added bit of difficulty, maybe if you have 0 Hunger and 0 Thirst those values are reduced further, to 5 HP on Easy and you can die on Normal and Hard. You'd have to be a seriously negligent player to allow both Hunger AND Thirst to drop to 0 after all.
Do I want the Thirst system I just made up in the game? Absolutely not. I just made it as an example of how it could be implemented, in a way that gives it purpose and doesn't just simply exist.

Hunger itself is already disliked by the community and complicated, why should there be a thirst meter?
Also, what would the Water Purifier's crafting recipe be? How would you collect water? Would all water in the wild bu unpurified? How would you purify water? Please add more detail. Also, what about early-game? Is this an early-game item?

No Support and more detail is still needed.
I think It could be suitable for education Edition of Minecraft but well need more details really.
I could see ways to make this work other than what Badprenup stated. I've personally thought of an idea to keep thirst fully optional but make it useful for PvP servers. The thirst bar could fill up to 20 like Health or Hunger. At lowest thirst, health regens like in 1.9+. At max thirst, it'll regenerate a little faster using the saturation rates from 1.8 and prior.
In this suggestion's current state, however, I can't support it.

Watch out for the crabocalypse. Some say the day will never come. But it will.
Feel free to drop by for a chat whenever.
If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.

Wouldn't that just be the Drowned?
I'm not a fan of this for a few reasons:

No Supprot for the reasons Badprenupvstated. We don't want another pointless bar to have to micromanage
My suggestions: Enhancements - Throwable Fire Charges - On Phantoms and Elytra. Also check out The Minecraftian Language. This signature is not here to waste your space.

Hey guys I'm James, I used to be a noob but now I'm not, I finally figured out how to use TextCraft so here's a banner for one of my suggestions.
only one type of deep sea hostile mob would not be fun xD i love swimming/wondering around my world.

well presented, Badprenup !! very thorough.
but, this could be added for Hard Core, maybe?
That still wouldn't change anything about the suggestion. Water is also still extremely easy to find.
