Hey y'all. This idea has been brought up before, but I want to discuss my vision for this redstone powered block.
1) Placers have a similar look to dispensers and droppers.
2) When powered by a redstone pulse, it will place a block as if the player had placed it from that side (this has to deal with oriented blocks).
3) If a block is already in front of it when powered, nothing happens.*
4) Would replace dispensers placing shulker boxes, TNT, heads, and pumpkins. Does not equip heads onto anything.
5) Could place most blocks, including seeds.
6) Crafting recipe: as if crafting a dropper, but with a piece of quartz in the middle.
*7) When a placer has no blocks to place in its inventory, and there is a block in front of it, it will break the block in front of it and put the block inside its inventory.
8) Could not place or break immovable blocks, such as obsidian.
9) Blocks such as glass, ice, leaves, and ores would not be placed in its inventory but rather destroyed.
10) Stone blocks that were broken by a placer would become cobblestone in its inventory.
11) Blocks like grass or mycelium would become dirt blocks if broken.
12) Water and lava could be destroyed by the breaking functionality, but buckets would not work for placing water and lava.
13) Gravity blocks would work like normal.
14) Holds 9 stacks of items just like droppers and dispensers.
While I Support the idea, I'd rather relegate the breaking function to another block.
My rationale behind the breaking function is that it is comparable to a dispenser using a water bucket to first place a source block, and then put it back in the bucket. I relied on precedents when coming up with the rules behind how my version of the placer would work haha. That is why similarly there is no silk touch effect or immovable objects allowed.

I also agree, the placer should not be able to break blocks. That should go to another block - the breaker maybe - and be dependent on a tool (either used in the crafting recipe or placed in an item slot), which would allow for silk touch, fortune, ect., without being overpowered. Additionally, I think the placer should be able to place non-movable blocks too.

You joined just to post this, welcome aboard.
I personally like it, as you've even covered corners like lack of effective Silk Touch and immovable blocks. Support.

My suggestions: Enhancements - Throwable Fire Charges - On Phantoms and Elytra. Also check out The Minecraftian Language. This signature is not here to waste your space.
