Minecraft has a lot of ores and people think it should stay with the ones we have now, but what if rubies were added? Rubies would be a rarer ore to find and wouldn’t be used for weapons, tools, or armor. Instead, it would be used to create new items to the game. They could be traded with villagers for emeralds and would be found near diamond level. Anyway, they could create an ore detector. Place one ruby in the middle and surround it with diamonds to create the detector. The detector will point up, down, left, or right to show you the nearest ore. The arrow would change color depending on the ores. Coal and Iron would be a red arrow. Gold, Redstone, and lapis lazuli would be a blue arrow. Diamonds, emeralds, and rubies would be a green arrow. The arrow would also start flashing if you are really close. The durability would be time based. The amount of time you have it in your main hand or side hand would decrease the durability. Comment your thoughts or other items the rubies could make! I think it would be cool.
I don't see rubies being another trading ore as a possibility, mainly because rubies were originally supposed to be the trading ore, but one of the developers I forget the name of is colorblind and kept mixing them up with redstone. Also, the ore detector seems way too overpowered.
I could support them if rubies did something original, but neither of these would work well.

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
There’s not really a good reason to add this. Rubies were going to be in the game but were replaced with emeralds to prevent confusion with redstone. A new ore has to fulfill a major new function. A simple ore detector doesn’t warrant a new ore, and is probably better handled with existing materials or a potion effect.
Rubies were a planned feature long time ago but a Mojang Employee (I'm not sure exactly who it was\) was red-green colorblind. He might mistake them for redstone so they replaced it with emeralds.
Comment your thoughts or other items the rubies could make!
This is your suggestion thread, not ours. You are supposed to be the one coming up with the ideas for what you're suggesting, not us.
As for the item itself, I see little value in it. We have a trading ore and just finding ores with the detector would make things all too easy once you get ahold of just one.
