This idea is for a new type of weapon: an old fashioned https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sling_(weapon), of the variety which is swung around above the head of the user.[/p]
The crafting recipe is five string and one leather, with the leather in the middle, and the string in a "V" around it, similar to how the iron is placed around a chest when crafting a hopper.[/p]
Slings can be enchanted with Unbreaking, Mending, Power and Curse of Vanishing.[/p]
To load or unload ammo, briefly right click (or whatever you've bound Use Action to). Any kind of gravity block is suitable ammo; when loading, the first ammo from the player's hotbar is used.[/p]
To shoot the sling, press and hold Use Action for a period of time, then release. The player's hand will go above his head, and the ammo will swing around in circles (centered around the player's upraised hand), increasing in speed over time. The radius of the circle might be about a meter.[/p]
When Use Action is released, the ammo, now a Falling Block entity, travels off in a straight line continuing whatever direction it was circling. Well, a parabola, really, but you know what I mean.[/p]
This means that the left/right direction the player is facing is not taken into account when the projectile is launched, but the up/down direction is. To allow the player have any accuracy at all in first-person view, an extra crosshair is shown in the direction the projectile will fly when the player releases the mouse button.[/p]
The projectile's FallHurtAmount value will depend on how long the player had been holding Use Action before releasing, and the level of Power enchantment.[/p]
Besides being useful for combat, being able to fling anvils/sand/gravel/concrete powder can have other, practical uses.[/p]
