So I think that having hoppers be movable with pistons would be a great idea as it would allow for people to make item switch tracks essentially so you could move one piston out of the way and another in that is in a different orientation to change the path of hoppers items follow. Alternatively, a Redstone signal could rotate a hopper to allow a similar thing (however this could mess up current redstone contraptions with hoppers and redstone close by like mine so the previous alternative is optimal.) I would also love to see inverted hoppers to allow for upwards item movement. However, I understand there are other ways to do this. I think that having upwards hoppers would simply make upwards item movement simpler and keep less advanced redstone users from having to either deal with water or create a complex restone contraption like the ones that can be found on youtube. These are just a few changes I think would make hoppers even better than they are now.
I agree it would be very interesting for beginners with redstone, but with people who already know how to build with redstone it's not that much of a problem. But, if you think it's a good idea for an addition, I agree.
I know for a fact this is possible on Pocket Edition (no idea what that translates to now since I didn't keep up with Better Together). I think tile entities aren't coded well enough to be movable on Java quite yet, but it'd definitely be much better if they were changed to be compatible.

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
7 Days to Die
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
