Me and my brothers had an idea while playing on 1.14.3: why not have warrior villagers defending their village of Pillagers or players who beat villagers? Not as an iron golem, but as having a "militia" of the villagers depending on the size of the village, and on the level of it or that of other villagers with professions that influence their weapons and abilities, such as the weaponsmith or armorer. If this is not possible, there could be a system only by their level, of different levels, that would not be like the others (with exchanges) but with the blocks of profession that he had around, in this case, Training blocks, or his level evolving according to the amount of hostile mobs he kills. As the only mobs that directly attack villagers are zombies and Pillagers (in that version) these would be their hostile mobs.. A warrior villager would have a "training dummy" that would be his "profession block" and when a villager without a profession saw it he would become a warrior and take a sword to train on the doll, and with the higher levels he would gain shield and armor, and could have a practice target also, to be able to create an archer. In small towns there would be a small tower with 1 archer and 2 warriors around the village protecting the surroundings. In large towns more towers and houses for soldiers, like an army even if it is a great civilization. What do you think of this idea? Do you have any better ideas for this system, about it? Or more precisely, an idea for the way of evolution of their levels, because that was kind of incomplete. Please comment, I hope Mojang sees my idea !!

Support. Minecraft villagers are essentialyl toast after 1.14 added pillagers. Iron golems are slow, cumbersome, and there's only ever one. The villagers need to fight back. I don't care what Mojang says about having villagers fight, because if they don't, they'll be dead in seconds flat (the villagers, not Mojang).

Another point i was thinking is that if the Pillagers were added to improve the lore of the game and/or add more dynamic and rich gameplay by interacting with the villagers and the player, so should the villagers follow up to this new features. Why would a group have professionals tending to the making of weapons and armos if there were such a small demand for these items as just the player and/or (if you force your imagination a bit) passing travelers would buy them? Also, how would the villagers keep the enemy tribes (ilagers, witches...) away if not by force at some point?
The Villages seem a lot like old ages civilizations that were organized in independent but correlated tribes (such as celtic, the germanics, the amerindians, etc.). In all these civilizations there were conflicts and the need to defend yourself from eihter other tribes or the environment. And as it has been already stated, the Iron Golems are a very sorry excuse of a protection, being their moviment and pathfinding so bad (even with the ability to run).

"Alright, let's add iron golems, illagers, witches and THEN we will make villagers suddenly fight!" Nope, that's just goofy. Why not just buff the iron golem instead of going through the trouble of making pacifists fight all of a sudden? no support forever.
While the idea is fine in theory, it simply isn't going to happen. Mojang is bent on villagers being pacifists, and it seems like it's going to stay that way. Otherwise, why would Mojang put on their official feedback site that there will be no fighting villagers, and why would they pour work into a whole other mob to take care of village defense? It's simply not going to happen, and you can't force it.
What we need to do is improve what we have. Villages have iron golems, but they're usually too slow to be of much use. But the groundwork is set. An improvement to golems would be a great idea. It would add to a mob that already has a lot of potential and would give villages a good defense while keeping villagers pacifists.

Villages are left unprotected on purpose so the player has motivation to protect them. i.e building up walls adding more iron golems etc. If guards were added it would be too easy and would leave no reason to protect villages. That's why zombie hordes/swarms and zombies breaking down doors were added to add challenge to protecting the villagers. I think iron golems are a nice balance. They have a ton of hp and are strong but are very slow. If guards were added it wouldn't make any sense because we already have something protecting the village. Also this is a build off the previous reply and what bandana_ree said, villagers are pacifists".
Rather than make villagers into fighters, have a way to convert pillagers to your side. This way they are "good" and yet difficult to get. This would allow better defence without too much defence. The main arguement being the villagers are pacifists but the illagers are definately not. This stays consistent with the lore and allows a new complex way to defend from range rather than melee. At least this is my opinion and would make the pillagers more useful in my opinion. I would also like to see the villagers providing material for their defenders rather than being some stodgy traders.

I do really like this suggestion. Unfortunately Mojang has already denied the idea of villagers fighting.
How about another type of golem that is much smaller and faster while also being more common. Perhaps 2-3 per village?

I think that would be amazing because the villagers have no protection. Except for the iron golems and they're too slow. too big.
